Mustang Milano

A couple people mentioned how they wished ford had made the milano concept in an earlier thread. I stumbled across an Australian posting a picture of his falcon and behold it was the milano.

They're amazingly similar to each other.

That there be an XB falcon coupe. the body style started with the 2 door, XA falcon [ the green one], then th XB [the red one] followed by the XC [ the purpleish

one] production was from 1972 to 1979,

all the models were more common in a 4 door sedan.

Just joined the forum for other reasons and ran across this thread...

The Milano has always been a favorite of mine. The fact that it is a hatchback also appealed to me.

I've had a 70 fastback, a 73 Grande and I've driven an XB Falcon. Looking at the pics of the Milano, it appears to be about the size of the 70 fastback. The front end is obviously modified Shelby fiberglass.

The Falcon is a much larger car. I believe it is right about the same width as a 66-69 Torino/Fairlane. The Falcon shares a lot of chassis structure with the earlier XR thru XY Falcons, same basic car as the 66-70 US Falcon...but way cooler. And that Falcon is more related to the 66-67 Fairlane than a Mustang. I don't believe the XA thru XC Falcons share much with the 70-71 Torinos. I actually think the 70-71 Torino is too long and wide for what it is and the XA thru XC have better proportions.

The Falcons were going to be built on the Torino Chassis and the Ford Australia designers said it wouldn't work and came up with their own design. Ford liked it so much they let Ford Australia build their own design studio and not have to fly to Dearborn to design cars.

The xb is one of my all time favorite cars, but the cost of these cars is getting beyond my reach. With lower build numbers than our US cousins and rust problems these cars are expensive collectables.

And worst of all, nobody makes repro body work, panels or trim. Even the glass is hard to come by. Resurrecting a rusty wreck is not easy or cheap.

But having a stock standard car that can take big rubber! You can see why they are popular here.
