Hi Just wondering if anybody has any feed back on Weingartner racing good bad or other wise are they still in business etc. looking at buying some Brodix BBC heads of them.

Luke, I have no experience with him. I do know he has been to the EMC a couple of times. You might check out what is said on "Yellow Bullet" and "Speed Talk". Sorry I'm of no help.

Thanks Chuck it did help. Just looked on yellow bullet and a few other forums, looks like he is the man for what I want to do

Can you share what you are building? I'm always interested in engine builds of any flavor. Chuck

Nothing special just putting some decent heads on a 454 I already have, it has peanut ports and a old torker and is a bit strangled at 520hp so I will go to Brodix race rite oval ports and a matching brodix intake to get the last little bit out of it. It will also allow for a future step up in cam. I chose brodix because they are a stock configuration head, no raised exhaust ports so I don't need to replace a brand new set of headers and they(race rites) have been proven to support over 700hp.

general specs bit of an old school combo but it works well enough

468, steel crank, eagle H beam rods, JE pistons, 10.7:1 comp 950 holley hp series. manely valves, comp springs, 7.2 roller rockers, true roller timing set, cam at the moment is a Solid flat tappet 248@50 595 lift with 294 duration its a comp cams magnum 294s and the frighting part I am running comp cams solids. I will go to a Herbert cam soon but cannot decide wether to stay with a SFT or move with the times and go roller. Should be easier to hit my ambitious 630-650hp figure with the roller but I kinda dig the bad arse idle you get with the flat tappets

It sounds like a nice build to me. I'm not a fan of comp cams. Depending on your goals, you may be able to stay SFT. If you replace the cam, you might consider a quasi-custom grind to match your exact combination of parts and application. While roller cams have some advantages, it is a lot of extra money and moving parts. I use rollers when I can't get to the goal without going to a roller cam.

What kind of vehicle is the 468 going into?

Chuck

Chuck thanks for you interest. I haven't really started looking at cams just yet at a guess i would need mid 250s@50 and a bit over 620 lift but a custom grind will be worth discussing.

I have the petrol heads disease. Here is how it flared up again with this engine, I know the bottom end is sound and well built and should be able to handle up to about 700 at the ragged edge, but the top end was restrictive, kept thinking there is another 30-50hp in there I should get some heads that will unlock its full potential that's all I want. Now I am getting heads I am thinking the heads will have more potential than the cam I should get a better cam probably be able to get a 100hp gain overall with the heads and cam 630-650ish is a good number and still doable on this bottom end. Rev head logic and a backwards way to build things lol. The whole thing started with an unfinished project car that I brought while holidaying interstate. It's a Aussie car so no doubt it will look strange to you but here it is as I found it.

Luke,

Is it a Holden? To my eyes it looks like a combination of a Pontiac Le Mans and a Rolls Royce. Sorry, I don't know Australian cars very well. It does look relatively light for having a BBC as power plant. It should be a hand full to drive.

Chuck

Yes its a Holden. They where based on a lemans so good eye. The grill is from a Caprice holdens long wheelbase top model as are the wheels. I am tipping about 3600lb when its all done I have stripped a bit out of it got some centrelines and added some adjustable top control arms out back with tube lowers, tube A arm up front and a few other tweaks it will most likely overpower the chassis to a reasonable degree but I don't really want to fit a cage.

Picture of a caprice for reference.
