You Need Zinc- Zinc Rich Oils As Recommended By Camshaft Manufacturers

I do not believe there is any doubt flat tappet camshafts require use of zinc rich oil or at the very least zinc rich oil additives. This is not the case for todays modern overhead cam motors and motors using roller lifters.

Zinc rich oil is not typically found in your local auto parts store.

I used a 4 OZ bottle of ZDDP Oil Additive from Eastwood at every oil change on my 71 per recommendations of the engine builder, supposingly it also decreases friction on cold start ups after the car has been sitting for a while. Who knows how much it really helps but it makes me feel better adding it.

I bought a bottle of Zinc additive from Kragen's only to read the

label on the back in fine print "contains no zinc or phosphorous".

Found an auto parts store that caters to rebuild shops and they have

a steady supply of the Valvoline racing oil. Zinc rich oils are not

that easy to find and expen$ive. But what is a newly rebuilt quench

351C, with a cam, 4V worth?
