My car came with E70-14 and the matching radial would be

P235/60R14. I want to maintain the current stance with more

rubber on the road. What size tire?

Thanks.

mike

Great site for seeing what works and fits.

That is a good site, thank you.

One problem is I don't know my wheel size, 14 x ?.

Last time the tires were changed I asked the tech

to measure the wheel. He said "7 or 8 inches", thanks :-/

I have heard the '71's came with an odd size wheel.

If you want to keep the current 14 inch wheels i suspect you will be limited by available tires sizes. I doubt you'll find a wider tire that will fit 14 inch wheel that isn't taller. I know that 245 6015 Used to exist and they will be slightly taller and wider. On the other hand these cars can take much larger tires than you have now

I'd bet that your wheels are 14x7, and if so, a little wider than 9" is about as wide as you can go. And that's how wide yours currently are.

You can go to 14x10 wheels in the back, but in the front, you are about as wide as you should be, IMO.

Mike the standard would have been a 14 X 6 inch

I think the 14 X 6 came with E - 78"s

Optional steel rims were 14 X 7 - they came with the comp suspension upgrade - I think you probably have that option with the M code - 4 speed

I think you said it had a rear sway bar = comp susp

15 X 7 Magnums with F-60's were the biggest size available

Don, you are right.

after doing a little more reading last night, E-78 were on the 14x6 rims.

the E-70 were on 14x7 rims.

Yep... 14x7.

So unless you want to change wheels, the tires you have are about as wide as you should go. You could go wider, but you may have a hard time finding a shop that will install tires that are mores than 2.5 inches wider than the wheel.

That answers my questions. Ford would have put the widest tire available

on an M-code w/toploader and comp suspension. I don't want bigger wheels.

The car is a sleeper and I want to keep it that look.

Thanks.
