    Testing the fuel gauge

It's raining here today and the Beetle is in the garage about to have the motor pulled so it'll have to wait a bit. But I will do the check when it's dry.

    Testing the fuel gauge

I didn't think to check it outside the tank, plugged in, and key on while moving the rod.  Thanks, I will do that tomorrow.

    Testing the fuel gauge

My float is attached. Everything looks kosher. Is it possible for the enclosed resistor in the sending unit to be kaput? Is there a way to test it when it's on the bench (doesn't appear so, but what do I know)? Could it have died just from removal or installation (I was pretty gentle and...

    Testing the fuel gauge

My '73 shows empty all the time, too.  Considering that my gauge stopped working immediately after I put a new fuel tank in, I would think this is the first thing I should check.  It'd be amazingly coincidental that a problem occurred elsewhere along the line right at that moment.

1973 351C vacuum lines and eventual other questions

I just looked on the Craftsman site. They don't show any distributor wrenches. As long as I can get in there with something (and I can get it today), I'll be happy(est). And if I can't get one today I'll order that one from Amazon. Thanks for the help!

1973 351C vacuum lines and eventual other questions

I noticed that, too.  Also, my vacuum advance has two ports but both protrude from the side, whereas every other one I have seen has one protruding from the top. So today I cleaned up and remarked the timing marks on the harmonic balancer only to find the timing at idle to be about 22d btdc...

    Vacuum Hose Diagrams

Thanks for those links, Don. Now I have to find all those various valves in my engine bay, buy some appropriate ID rubber hose, and connect everything properly where it's not I will report back..

1973 351C vacuum lines and eventual other questions

Hey guys. I've been looking online for a vacuum line diagram for my 1973 351C 2 bbl.  The engine is all stock. I think I may have found the right one or two diagrams, but some of the hookup locations are so vaguely drawn I'm not sure where every line goes. Right now the car has no lines...

    car vibrates/hums

To answer all the diagnostic questions: It happens with the engine off. The car does not start. It is a low frequency hum that sounds and feels like it's throughout the car. I have replaced the solenoid and the same thing occurs. The key was in the ignition when I opened the door and the...

    car vibrates/hums

In another thread I have been dealing with some fuel system issues on my '73 Mach1 351C, which you guys have been very helpful with.  Thank you. I've gotten everything fuel related back together, but now there is another issue that wasn't there a month ago when I had been trying to start the...

    fuel vent separator

Yep, I found my charcoal canister. I guess a PO felt that just plugging the line was a better option. Right now it's just open to atmosphere. So now the entire fuel system is back together. I put 5 gallons of gas in the new tank, and nothing is running out of the fuel line when I disconnect...
