71 Convertible with an 18 option Marti Report

Great info! The 71 Cougar I had was built in 11/70 and I always attributed the auto seat release delete to the fact it was ordered and built as a dealer demonstrator.

71 Convertible with an 18 option Marti Report

Interesting that it had the delete auto setback release selection that is normally included with the convenience group. I had a 71 Cougar that also had that same delete as it was a dealer demonstrator and I think that was chosen to save battery on life in the show room when the doors were...

    Correct radio for '73 Convertible?

73s and 71/72s had 3 radio choices. AM dash speaker AM-8track stereo, door speakers AM-FM stereo. door speakers The AM-8Track used the taller hole mounting bezel/ volume tuning face plate. Later in the 70s Ford offered AM/FM 8Tracks, might fit, but I am not sure.

    Master cylinder replace

I experienced the same thing with my previous MC that I installed many many years ago. It came with an adaptor so was no issue. That MC eventually leaked and I replaced it with a rebuilt I had. The rebuilt had the original factory port sizes. Local auto stores may have the correct adaptor.

    1972 Numbers for starter

There should be at least two part numbers, one for and automatic transmission, the other for a manual transmission. The starters are different. But, I don't know the part numbers

    Cold Air Intake Duct

73s used the air ducting in the figure to draw cooler air into the intake than would have the case without the ducting and flexible connection. Prior years drew the air from under the hood where the air is typically warmer. Cooler air is typically more dense and better for performance. This...

    Missing linkage?

Automatics had a transmission kick down rod connected to the carb linkage and transmission linkage. It would kick the trans down a gear when accelerating hard.

73 mach 1 color front position light bezel

If you are referring to the front side marker light bezel and the fender within the side stripes around the bezel, mine came from the factory in the argent color. I think it was black or argent (matching the stripes) if the car had a TU-TONE hood which used the same black or argent paint as the...

    1973 rear deluxe bumper?

The deluxe rear bumper used bumper guards with rubber vertical strips and horizontal strips between the guards and outboard of the guards turned up at the ends. The guards bolt on to the bumper mounting bracket areas from the back in place of the chrome head square neck bolts. The bolts thread...

    My horns look wrong

71-73 Cougars used the same horns. West Coast Classic Cougars sells used and repros. The photos of the repros look close to the originals.

    Hood Locks

I used to have a 71 Cougar. It used the square wire hood hinge springs also and the same hood hinges as Mustangs. Finding a used set from a Cougar may be an easier find.

Does that TS/HS routing look wrong?

Along the side is correct. If at the bottom it would interfere with the round steering column cover plastic sleeve tabs and retaining clip that are located at the bottom.

    Trunk panels

71 Cougars used trunk panels, West Coast Classic Cougar sells repros. Might fit as is on Mustangs or likely can be altered to fit.

    Why 1000 rpm idle speed?

I have a 73 Mach 1 Q code 4 speed. It came with a dual point distributor. The tune up specs call for a curb idle of 1000 rpm. I noticed 72 Q code 4 -speed and 72 HO, both have dual point distributors and the same 1000 rpm idle speed spec. 71s had lower idle speeds. 1000 rpm seams high to...
