    Lower column

71Coop, thank you for providing the video link. I have not taken one of these steering columns apart for years, and have never swapped a fixed position column with a tilt column. But, I am doing it this coming Spring (Car Season, 2024), using a tile steering wheel column from a 1973 Cougar to...

1973 351 Cleveland 2V available, what would you do?

If the engine was not physically damaged, as in a rod exiting the block, you could end up with a decent engine for not a lot of money. I would have the heads and block magnafluxed before spending any kind of serious money on it. I have seen a lot of folks telling others of how nicely those...

    New member

Hi! I am a little late to this thread, having taken a few weeks off to travel to Florida and visit some other places during the journey from Upstate NY to Florida and back. You have a beautiful Mach 1, and I am glad you posted some photos and the Marti Report. When I first saw photos of your...

Relay Panel above glove box missing buzzer

I decided to take the snippets from the larger, full wiring schematic for the Relay Bar related circuitry and put them into a file snippet, with some annotations. If you need it, here it is. If not, I am certain someone will find it useful someday. If nothing else it was fun putting together...

Relay Panel above glove box missing buzzer

It sounds like you got the info you needed. But, I am providing some files for you anyway just to make certain you have all you need. I collected some of this info from other members on this forum, folks to whom I am indebted for so freely sharing the details I needed for myself at one time...

    Cool new gauge set up

I prefer the gauges with Dakota VHX units, where all of the gauges are in the driver pod, and nothing is moved to the vertical center console. That leaves me room to mount my Garmin Drive 51 GPS/Backup Camera display. Some may find the inclusion of the coolant, oil pressure, and voltage gauges...

'71 Mach 1 Tires and Wheels

First things first. That is a beautiful looking Mach 1. Next, I am a fan of Magnum 500 wheels. Here is what I have on our 1973 Mach 1. We have a set of 15 x 7"Magnum 500 wheels, and mounted on them we have P235R60 x 15 radial tires, front and rear, and we have plenty of room without...

    Super high Idle speed?

I am thinking it is also choke related, as have some of our other esteemed contributors to this thread. The eectric heated choke cap on an oem carb did not appear on Mustangs until 1973. If you have the oem carb it gets its heat from a stove pipe tube that is notorious for not being inserted...

    Hood lock install

Nicely done. Below is a link to a video of our 73 Mach 1's Dzus hood locks. I also added some photos showing what happens when someone mounts the lower locking mechanism to the radiator mount instead of using the extensions.

    Headlight wiring routing

I am a fan of headlight relays on the First Generation Mustangs, no mater what headlight technology is being used. https://www.rccinnovations.com/index.php?show=menu-hrk-all

    Happy Christmas 2023/24

I have been very distracted in the past few months myself. I miss reading the new post daily. Now it is like every other week. Life happens, eh?

    Must Have Manuals

I agree re: the Forel manuals being a great resource. I have pretty much all of their offered manuals in PDF format. The link HemiKiller provideed sis not work for m. Following is the link I use: https://www.forelpublishing.com/clickbank/index.html I also like the West Coast Classic Cougar...

    Spark Plug Gap

I had Platinum plugs that I installed once in a 203 in an 84 Linciln VII LSC. Furl inected with headers from the factory. The engine had been running perfectly with the Autolite copper plugs just fine, but I just had to get the Platinum plugs. I returned from my test drive immediately and...

Am I the only one that strongly dislikes these fender emblems?

I removed them, and filled, then painted the mounting holes on my 1969 Mustang coupe many years ago (1971). Since then i left them on. They do no harm, and are not an eyesore IMHO.

    What's a good battery replacement for a Mach1

Although a 24F will fit, and is appropriate for all but high electrical demand vehicles, I far prefer the added cranking amperage capacity of a 27F design battery. After watching the video from YouTube's Project farm (he compares a lot of different products) I saw the Walmart branded EverStart...

    Hunting a voltage leak

I chose to listen to and heed the advice is more experienced folks re: removing my ring when working on cars, whether it was electrically oriented work or not. I am glad you did not end up losing your finger.

    AOD Swap

We ended up using the original auto trans shifter with our AOD. I know that may sound unusual, or even totally impossible. But, it was almost too easy to do. Thebehavior of the tranny and the shoft positions is different in some ways, and I discovered what has been called, by others, the AOD...

Long Time coming 1973 Mach1 restomod

I enjoy seeing progress photos. When we were having our 1973 Mach 1 deeply re$tored we stopped by weekly, not to goose the tech along, but just to take progress photos and chat with the tech and shop owner about anything that might have come up. I also paid on-the-fly each month to make...
