What is this part called and where can I buy a new one?

You may be right! I did a quick search through the 1971 Ford manual and didn't even see this part mentioned. The 429 Mustang and Cougar site shows 3 pictures, specific to this part....1 of those pics actually looks like the leading edge is not tucked under the core support! The Air Dam seal...

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

This home is just over 20 years old with original pool equipment. I've had to go through a variety of repairs, but this floor cleaner header was the most difficult to get right. The 7 pipes had to be cut down and extended, then glue up all 7 to the header at the same time. I even bought the...

Under the core support is also the way I've seen them.

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

Yesterday, today, and probably sometime mid-week, will be spent working on pool pumps and motors. I went to do the periodic water test and acid dose and saw the filter pump wasn't running. Often it's a quick fix, but this time, the pump's seal plate and motor's end cap/mount flange were badly...

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

Take a close look at the end of each valve guide inside the port. It's pretty common for those to crack when a replacement guide is driven in. Maybe one of the chunks was missed and broke loose. Cyl #1 would seem to be a good place to start. Other than that, I'd say something was...

    This had to hurt

From the looks of that picture, the car is haunted. Don't say you weren't warned.

FMX making clicking noise from stop

Initially, I was going to suggest checking u-joints, but with the rest of your post, it certainly seems you have transmission problems. Slippage during a turn makes me think the fluid level is really low...start with that and check the u-joints.

This is one of T's cam bearings. They act similar to a restrictor in the galley feeding the cam off the main bearing. Oil flows through the groove on the OD of the bearing and into the slot. The slot gets clocked in the optimum position for oil wedge against the cam journal.

Speedometer Gear gets mangled after a short drive

I wonder if your drive gear is incompatible with the number of teeth on the driven gear and it's destroying itself? This is Don C's spreadsheet. It may offer some info. At one time, I found a compatibility chart, but I wasn't able to locate it...

Off the shelf 3rd member that drops into our cars?

I didn't realize, or perhaps I knew and forgot, that TImken invented the tapered roller bearings. Cool stuff! Here's their story, for anyone interested: https://www.timken.com/about/our-story/

Off the shelf 3rd member that drops into our cars?

When I turned wrenches back in the late 80's, we used a lot of timken bearings....I distinctly recall them being part marked with "Timken". When they boxed them, did they also part mark the bearings? Seems like it might be risky/difficult/cost-prohibitive for them to mark an assembled bearing...

What did you do to your car today?

Below is a response directly from T Meyer related to a 408 build I'm working using his kit. The context is for an engine with a 7000 RPM upper limit. T's response in red...highlights are from my email search. He may have changed his stance since the writings you referred to.

    Fan Shroud Re-Finish

This will require more than a light coat to blend the black vs gray. I don't recall where I got this shroud, so I have no idea of its history (getting old sucks). It has a sun-bleached appearance, but it's on both sides and appears uniform throughout....which leads me to believe it was gray and...

    Fan Shroud Re-Finish

I have a fan shroud that has gray showing through the black finish. At first, I thought someone had painted it gray, but it turns out, the black is what has peeled/scratched off in areas. I blasted the inner surface to test the waters and it appears this is some sort of fiberglass. It's a...

Lower Control Arm Eccentric Eliminator Kit - DIY?

I made several sets of these a while back, but I haven't installed them yet. I can see where the slot would be handy for the inner position. To get the holes placed consistently, I clamped several together and drilled them at the same time. Before drilling get them all the same LxW.

What did you do to your car today?

That fold-out screen is what I had envisioned. I have a ??? DIN in my truck that has a flip out DVD player...figured they had something similar with a bigger screen. I just did a quick search. My fortune teller sees one of them in my future. 😛
