Was color was the original PS Pump Reservoir?

Interesting... I have never seen this colour on a 71-3 car, at least that I would consider factory. Always black. I need to get out more, I guess. Oh, we have a stay at home order right now so maybe after the middle of May...

Front shock upper rubber isolators so deteriorated that....

The quality of the rubber on the front shocks as definitely changed over the years. I used to let the suspension hang suspended in air over the winter in the 80's, 90's...  on the same front shocks. Never had an issue. The last ten years or so, if I do this, it blows out the upper engine...

73 Q Code Rocker Arm Reinstallation?

Fair enough. That’s what I figured. The factory manual also goes through the sequence similar to your comments. I was aware of the adjustable lifter requirements as I have previously done the procedure exactly as you describe. Better safe then sorry....

73 Q Code Rocker Arm Reinstallation?

Hmmm. Maybe I wasn't clear. They are hydraulic lifters (original), positive stop pedestals. Sorry about that.

    '71 429SCJ 4-spd Hardtop for Sale (Auction).

Hmmmm. Dont think anyone here own's this? There are some possible red flags in my mind based on the very short description and not to great photos of the car as presented. However, this is a very rare car. Would love to have it...

73 Q Code Rocker Arm Reinstallation?

I changed out my valve seals. Before I retorque the rockers (positive stop, non adjustable), I started thinking about the procedure to do it properly. I keep thinking about the pre load on the lifters and making sure that I tighten them down in proper sequence. It has been 20+ years since I last...

    1973 Mustang Mach 1 - $23,500 (Rahway)

Live and learn. When I was younger and of course, no bank account.... Rust was my friend. As I don’t have the space, skill or tools, I have only purchased rust free cars as my initial base in the last 20+ years. Worth the extra $$$ initially. Anything mechanical can easily be sorted. Back in the...

    First Time Valve Cover Removal

Figured while I have the top of the engine out for cleaning and maintenance, worthwhile to switch out the original valve seals. Everyone of the original valve seals was still completely in tact when removed, quite unusual 48 years later. The yellowish seals are the original pieces. Still, they...

The EPA is coming for your tuner and exhaust

You must be referring to the current Canadian  Liberal government with your last statement. They’re literally, “nut’s”...

    First Time Valve Cover Removal

Yes. Good points. The car was in Oakland California it’s entire life until 2018. I would not be surprised if it was a California test of some kind and the DMV used these numbers to refer to the results... Who knows. I have seen rebuilt engines with specs provided as you mention also. The fact...

    First Time Valve Cover Removal

Thanks for your thoughts Tim. T-5 is a rare pony for sure, look after it. All my oil deflectors are in good shape. If this the tag on the valve cover relates to the engine being rebuilt in any fashion, it was done so in its infant years, I would think. Then, it was never touched again until I...

    First Time Valve Cover Removal

I’ve thought about the valve seals. No sign of any breakdown at this time. I will be doing this before reassembling. I am happy the engine oil change was changed on a regular basis, I’ve pulled covers in the past and just groaned with what was underneath. Sure makes life easier knowing the...

    First Time Valve Cover Removal

After 48 years, cannot state 100% certainty that this was the first time these valve covers were removed, but I’ll make my case and let the experts determine)).    I’m pretty confident this is a 45K orig mi car. I have spent the past few weeks going through every inch getting to know it...

    It’s just habit....

Tim. Mine is a 55 amp Motorcraft alternator.  It is a 73 Q Code 4-spd car. Yes, a dual point and dual diaphragm distributor. Thanks for the tips on the vacuum switch. I have a couple spares. so I will check those first once I remove it from the engine. I could have avoided breaking it, just a...
