    New to the community

Welcome. Very nice. It looks a lot like the 1972 I am working on! Wish I had the 4 speed, I only got an automatic. I will keep an eye out for update on your restoration and take notes. Good luck and God bless.

    really, a 71 Boss 302 lol

I find more and more people use certain terms in their ads to garner views from keyword searches. For example, I also like to look for GTO's around my area. When I search for GTO I get a bunch of other cars pop up as the listing has this as a keyword or included in the ridiculous title. Then if...

    1971 Mach 1 Purchase Decision

I paid $1500 for a Q code that has about the same amount of work. But it is not about the money as you will never get the cost of your restoration back (unless you have an R code or something). So if you are OK paying the price and have the cash, buy it. We can all give you our opinion, but then...

Starting on the 1972 Mach 1

Thanks for the info Hemikiller. My current flex plate does look OK, and the gear teeth would probably be OK for another 50K or so (long enough to determine if the C6 is good). So given the information you shared, I will re-use what I have for now. I know it fits and is correct. I was planning...

    Ignition lock

My son's 1972 coupe had a similar problem. I think the guy gave us a crap key that probably did not work in the ignition but worked in the door. Anyway, we had to drill out the lock. In fact, I ended up breaking out the lock portion, peeling out the guts and tumblers with a needle nose pliers...

    Changing a 351 c to a 351w

My son and I put a 351W into a 1972 coupe. Everything bolts right up as far as placing the engine into the car. However, the exhaust required modification, all the brackets on the front are different, and the water pump is different. It was the water pump selection that kind of directs you to...

Look what on the cover of Mustang monthly

I got that issue and the article and tracking down this convertible is way cool. Wish I had the ability to track and find cars like this!

Starting on the 1972 Mach 1

Good news! I got the pistons out! What I did was drive them to the bottom of the cylinder. Got a cylinder hone and ran it in the cylinder, and they popped right out. I did not score the cylinders and after a quick hone they actually look fairly good. I will have to bore it to clean out a little...

    2015 test drive

Well I had an accident with the rental. Hit a deer! It was a small deer and I hit it and then it went under the car. The upper and lower grill is broken, the front fascia is cracked and broken. Behind the grills there is a flapper system that closes and all those plastic parts were broken...

    2015 test drive

I picked up a National rental car and picked the 2015 Mustang. It is the same color as yours and had the Eco-boost engine. But it was an automatic. I drove from NC to NY and the trip odometer at the end of the drive showed I had 29.9 MPG. I used the cheap gas. I drove almost exclusively freeway...

    Carb Choke

+1 on the new shop. I am not a carb expert, but the choke should be the easiest to diagnose and fix for any trained mechanic. Of course the problem may be that the mechanic only knows how to fix the choke on the fuel injected cars.

    Car pulling to the right

Ask for the printout. I had a 1984 Oldsmobile "aligned" when I put new tires on it. Three months later and less than 10k in miles and my right front tire had worn the inside edge off. Went back to the shop and they gave me some story about the shocks are worn out and the steering sector is...

    Boss rolling chassis on cl

I believe that is the part number for the correct rivits to attach the VIN to the dash panel.

    1973 Mustang

The main gripe I have is the spatter paint in the engine bay??? I know the seats look a little puffy, wrinkles. Missing brake pedal pad and horn button center. But not ugly and easy fix. I just noticed the bottom shot, is that undercoating over rust holes?

How many more electronics in cars? e-brake, steering, shift knob

Tony, I also rent cars often and had the Chrysler 200. When I first got in I thought WTH! I drove it for a while and kept turning the shifter knob to adjust the fan speed. I found out that the car will not shift into reverse when you are doing over about 10 mph. I even tested it going 70 down...

    Brake Master Cylinder Painting

I have also had good luck just spraying the master cylinder with Eastwood diamond clear. You just have to be very careful not to spill on the exterior. Had my master cylinder look like new for years. And as suggested, if it starts to show a little rust, clean it and touch it up.

    Horn going off

The Grant steering wheel horn is notorious for the junk horn button. I had to disconnect mine and installed a button on the dash. Did this so the car would pass the state inspection. Took off the stupid dash button and use hand/finger gestures instead of the horn lollerz (in Christian love of...

    Electric problem

"Lastly, on the starter solenoid, the windshield side neg battery terminal and battery side pos terminal , circuit breaker for the roof, one yellow 12 ga fusible link and 1 black with red stripe, can't make out gauge, fusible link." The neg battery cable should be to the engine block as a ground...

    Mustang Body 1/4 hardware

When my son and I were assembling the 1972 coupe, I stopped at the local Fastenal store and got similar box of U-nuts and bolts. I just took in my old ones and matched them up. I think the extra cost when you buy the fastener kits from the restoration vendors is the neat packaging and labeling...

    NOS vs. OEM

OEM can also mean that I can go to Autozone and buy a Motorcraft part that is called "OEM". But the part was recently made and as stated above, may look and feel slightly different. I can attest to this fact. As a plastics injection molder of Ford products, we molded Ford fan shrouds for the...
