    Did you know...

That you can store spare fuses in your fuse box? I received a harness for repair the other day and it had a fuse standing on its end and inserted into the blind hole on the face of the fuse box. The fuse sticks out pretty far, so if you do that to store spare fuses, watch your feet!

Due to the rising costs of shipping, I am planning on raising rates in August. First raise in rates since 2008.

    New Ford F150 Ad with 7123 Mach1

I've seen it over the past 2 days: a new F150 advertisement on TV, towing a white Mach1. Later, the owner is using a pressure washer (!) to clean the Mach 1. OMG!

Midlife Harness Restorations Holiday Season Hours

I will be taking an extended vacation with my new girlfriend from Dec. 20 through Jan. 8, and won't be accepting orders during that time.  Well, yes, I'll be taking orders but only from her, if you know what I mean.  I'll try to continue reading the forum and posting, but I may be distracted...

    Early 1972 Mach 1 Tach-Compatible Headlight Harness

This is a very sweet headlight harness, fully restored with minimal splices.  The sportslamp sockets were replaced, however.  This is the early version without the seat belt wiring that goes to the transmission. $135 includes shipping within the US.

Post your funny stories, jokes, cartoons, etc.

I'll start.  I read this several years ago and apparently it won a first prize for a contest for wackiest Xmas story... As a joke, my brother used to hang a pair of panty hose over his fireplace before Christmas. He said all he wanted was for Santa to fill them. What they say about Santa...

    Boss 351 and Sportslamps

Just got a customer with a Boss 351 and his headlight harness has sportslamps in it.  I thought only Mach 1's got the sportslamps.  True or False?

Would like clarification on a 'vert term

This has puzzled me since I was first aware of cars (circa 1905...). When one says the top is down, does that mean it is in the stowed position and the passenger compartment is open to the air?  Or does it mean that it is down and latched to the windshield header? When the top is up, does that...

Shorted Wire at Starter Solenoid: the real story

I had a customer just 2 weeks ago that fried a wire at the starter solenoid.  What was unusual was that it was the I (Ignition) line, typically brown or red/green.  First time I heard of this problem in 13 years of working on harnesses.  Scratched my head a bit, and came up with a reason, but I...

Trouble-shooting guide to get into your shorts

Have a pretty good current draw when the car is off? Here's my trouble-shooting guide to shorts: When ready to check out the harness, close all doors, turn off all lights, ignition key in the OFF position, accessories off, etc. Make sure both battery connectors are disconnected. Connect the...

7123 Chronic Problems with Tail-light Grounds

I've been deluged with 1971 harnesses this week: 3 of them! Over the years, I've noticed a chronic problem with tail-light grounds on the lamp sockets, highlighted by today's work.  Not only are the sockets usually corroded (which I clean up with a wire wheel and dremel for the insides), this...

    Covid19 and harness restoration business

I feel a bit funny posting this, but the Covid19 pandemic seems to be good for my business.  I basically work out of my garage, receiving and sending products via USPS, UPS, and FedEx.  I rarely see a customer in person.  Since the decision by many states to have people shelter-in-place, many of...
