Hello,

I am new member and working on a 73 convertible and wanted a tilt column. I have a 73 Mach 1 that I ordered and it came with tilt wheel. I am going from memory here so I could be wrong for sure. When I ordered the car Ford would not allow you to order tilt with a rim blow something about the wiring. This was in 73 so I ordered the leather wheel and got the tilt. Also I thought the 73 tilt was different that 71 -72.

I just purchased a 72 convertible also and it has tilt with rim blow but do not know if it was original don't have a Marti on the car.

71-72 is slightly different than 73, yes.

Turn signal switch and a plug are different but can be made to work.

I have a 73 tilt column that I bought many years ago before I knew it was not a direct bolt in for my 71. It's not installed yet, hate to cut and splice if not entirely necessary. Ugh.

How can u tell if its 71-72 or 73? Its even blue so it would match my car......interesting

Question on this OLD thread. Sorry to bring it back up.

Does a 1973 tilt column from a Cougar work in a 73 Mustang? Are there mods involved or direct bolt in?

As far as I know cougar and mustang tilt are the same. Console also except the cougar had lighted ash try. My 73 Mach 1 came from factory with cougar wiring in the console. Give West Coast Cougar Classics a call or maybe find on their web site.

Thanks David. I checked WCCC site and according to catalog the tilt column fits both.
