Impressive specimen. It is really too nice to drive. They went all in on originality except the for the KYB shocks. I am curious why it is equipped with an air snorkel hose. To my knowledge that wasn't a thing until 73.

The cold air hose started in '72 on vehicles with the California spec NOx emissions control. I don't see it listed on the documentation. The car was shipped to NY, so not sure how or if that snorkel is correct, or maybe all the HO engines had it. @kevken1959 has multiple 72 R-codes, maybe he can chime in. It doesn't look like the other 72 systems I've seen.

Hello Hemi. All 72 R codes came with the fresh air intakes. The parts are almost impossible to find. I suspect, but can't prove, that they are the same setups used on the 72 California NOX systems. Kevin.

Kevin: What 1972 R Codes do you currently own?

Hey Tim! I own two of the thirteen 72 R code convertibles. They are almost identical except for color. One is Bright Blue and restored. The other is Grabber Blue and undergoing restoration. The Grabber Blue one was a factory lease car. The picture below shows my Bright Blue 72 R code vert next to my Copper and Gold Glow 73 Q code 4-speed convertibles at the "Mustang Museum of America" in Odenville, Alabama, not far from my home. If you get a chance, take a trip there. Bob Powell has one of the most spectacular collections in the country! Kevin.

Wow! I didn't realize the R-code production ran that late in the model year. I was always under the impression they were early '72 production cars. I never stop learning about our cars.
