1973 Mustang Mach One
Okay guys here goes. I am the second onset of a 73 mach one h code, yeah I know 177 HP, lol. I am currently in the Army and will be getting out soon. I have had the car for 7 years and have been doing a lot to it. I'll be on here posting a lot of questions and hope to get a lot of good information..

Alright I have major sleeping issues so I figure it would be a good time to ask some questions.

I already post my question about my air cleaner so Ill leave it alone for now.

1. I have two spots on my fllor pan that need to be fixed ( ill post pics) one is where the drivers' side pass would place his/ her feet. I cut the old out, and ordered the pan for it and cut it to fit. The question is what kind of weld should I use and do I need to do the bottom as well.

I dont not have the ability to get under the car but I will tow it somehwere and pay whatever is needed to make sure it is done right. I hear people tell me plug weld is the best. I can reant a mig from local hardware store, just need to get some thoughts on it.

The other spot is on the firewall/ floor pan on the pass side top right. it is in a funny spot and pretty sure it is from the heater core, which i have already taken out just waiting for new one to show. It is 8 inches wide and about 1 foot tall. I used the remaining floor pan sheet metal and bent it to fit. I was going to simply por 15 and screw that piece on since there is a bunch of thick goo towards the right. It is hard to explain so I will also post some pics of that as well.

2. I bought a 2.5 inch exhaust kit from summit and I already had the hooker headers on. I know it orginally came with the single exhaust, but it just had to be done. The question I have is my rear valance is the solid type and would like to see if someone could shoot me the measurements for the duals so I can cut them out. I wold also like to know where is a good place to buy som factory tips that wouuld work for a 2.5 inch exhaust.

3. I replaced my rear window weatherstripping but still thinks it leaks on the rear pass lower corner. I have a complete weatherstripping kit coming and would like to get some ideas if I should try it again and hope I get a better seal

4. Last one for now. I think both of my rear quater windows leak, which would explain the rust that I had to cut out. Again I have a new strip kit coming and wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem and what they did to fix it. thanks again and I look forward to being on here alot.

Russ;

Check the area above the passenger floorpan rot (Above and behind the glovebox) this is the cowl area and many times the leaks that caused rust originate from that area

Also pop off the fresh air screens in the hood area and inspect inside with a flashlite for rust or clogs preventing water from draining off

Well thank you I took them off and have not put them back on yet. There is no rust I too the heater box out and the core looks good but you know how that goes. The drain tube was a little clogged up but nothing major. I was wondering can I use a standard bead of sealer when I go to close that thing back up. The flap on that box was old and rotted so I cleaned it up and put some foam type material on it to hold a solid seal. I hope that wont cause a problem down the road.

So are you saying that it could be the heater or maybe the a/c not getting enough drainage

Hi Russ;

The cause of rust in that area can be due to any one or more contributing factors one is the drainage points in the a/c , they get clogged allowing water to pool and drain into the cabin of the car or a breach or break in the heater system in the cabin which can also cause leaks then rust

or

It can come from the cowl area either due to clogged drainage points like above or leakage due to small holes that have formed over the years or dried and cracking sealing that allows water to pass into the cabin causing rust over time if left unattended.

There can be other causes but these are usually the main ones
