Making progress!  Once the engine was out and the innards revealed, found two teeth missing from the timing gear and the rear crank seal was leaking.  Only waiting on parts to start the reassembly; might be Monday.

Be careful. If the engine had jumped timing you will have bent valves and probably bent push rods. Once bent they flex back and forth and snap the heads off the valves and destroy the engine.

If if jumped timing the heads need to come off for sure. If not probably ok. Odd that teeth would be missing if it did not jump timing.

Depending on mileage with it that far down good time to check bearings, rings and valves anyway. Here comes another snowball, lol.

Now would be a convenient time to install new rod and main bearings ? Those original timing gear sets were famous for throwing off a couple of teeth. Good luck on your rebuild. Ed Raver
