I asked for one of these for Christmas.  Not sure if I got it or not. https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-contour-sct.html .  Ive got a lot of heavy surface rust to get off and I am running through DA disks too fast not to mention it is taking too long to get a nice smooth surface.  I have watched several videos and most everything I have read is positive.  I will have to get the aggressive drum. https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-contour-sct-abrasive-drum-4-5-inch.html

Any experience with it?

DA discs are cheap, the drums for the SCT are very expensive. I can get a roll of 100 discs for around $30 for the best quality made. If you're going through them too quickly, step up to a more aggressive grit and a higher quality disc. IIRC, I used 60 grit to sand my 71, a couple spots I needed to use 36.

There's no magic bullet to getting surface rust removed. It's just dirty, time consuming work. Best thing to do is just suit up and get it done.

Don't forget to post-treat with a rust killing acid such as SEM's RustMort to kill the rust hiding in the pits.

My friend that does restorations has one of these Snap On super expensive Crud Cutters. He uses brushes that have a bend in the wire. He also uses just stiff wire brushes in cordless drill and of course phosphate to get the rust off. https://store.snapon.com/Remove-All-Tool-Tool-Air-Crud-Removal-P644425.aspx

Or you can just get you an in ground swimming pool and put molasses in it, lol. It does wear out got to drain my tank and refill soon.

I have never used the dustless blasting but some do use it. I cannot say if it will leave the metal straight or not. I would have to have them do a test piece of flat metal to see if it curls up like when you dry sand blast. The surface treatment after that is critical also.

My wife did buy this for me for Christmas.  I am going to order the more aggressive drum and the wire drum before I start since I have a lot of heavy surface rust that has pitted pretty bad in some areas.   I want to remove as much of the paint as possible since I am doing a complete color change.

I will take some before and after pictures as well as some video as I go.

Jeff73Mach1,

Did you do your whole car with this tool?  Any pics, tips, advice before I start?
