My Car
1973 Q code Mach 1
http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/3437867361.html

I want a simple project for my son and I to do before he starts learning to drive. He is going to need a car, though he won't get it for a few years.

I figure he and I can prep and paint the reap bumper cover, give everything a good cleaning, do the minor repairs (seller says the top is good, I suspect it is going to need replacement)

I would like opinions. I owned a 95 GT with a 5 speed and it was a very fast, but easy to drive car when it was stock. I suspect this one with the automatic will be better for a kid

(He is a really responsible kid, I am not worried about him showing off. Heck he gets mad if I do a burnout with him in the car.)

Sounds like a GREAT idea, Jeff!

I gave my daughter the 1989 LX 5.0 that she came home from the hospital in after she was born on her 16th birthday. With her studies and all, she never drove it until AFTER she graduated from Harvard three years ago. Funny thing, she loves the car but since she is living and working in Boston, the car is still "taking up space" here in my 4-car garage:).

Last week, I got a '69 Mach 1 that I plan to give to my youngest Son on his 16th birthday (3 years hence) but we (the First Lady and I) don't plan on telling him about it for a couple of years while it undergoes the restoration.

I think I like your idea better...working on the car with your Son.

I say "Go for it."

Sharp looking Car, Looks liek it woould be a nice project.

My son wants a 2001 Mustang, because thats year he was born, and he also hates it whe I do Burnouts, he says I'm going to Kill the car, and it ruins the tires!!

The ex is not on board with him having a convertible. The current plan is I will provide a car and do all maintenance and repair and she will provide insurance.

I think she is just worried her ever expanding ass won't fit in the seat. ;)

Oh well, looks like my Mach is gonna get a fresh short block earlier than expected!

LOL WOW:whistling: but back to the car. I say go for it and let the rest work out however it works out. Went through the same with mine when I bought my daughter her motorcycle but I did not ask just did it.

That will change :D

You are giving your son a 69 Mach I? I've been saving for years for one for MYSELF!!!! I need to "stop selling death sticks and rethink my life". (its derived from a Star Wars quote)

I found a good deal on an 2001 Mustang Bullitt when my son was 17. He is 22 now and has done well with it. Only 2 minor tickets over the years (that I know of). I say go for it, but you may want to put a roll bar in it. Maybe the wife will approve with a roll bar.

Expand on the short block line:huh:

Mad money must be spent lest it gets even madder!

Mine was tired when I got it. Still has the 73 dished, cast pistons. I am undecided as to exactly what CID version I want to build, but I want a stroker, but haven't decided what size. I may call http://mmeracing.com/ and talk to them about building me something

Thats a good place to call he knows stroker motors. When I was researcing mine. The 393 was the safest with the 408 being next in line and any thing over that they always refered to as a race motor only.

Hey Jackson. I see in your profile that your ride is a BMW. What model of convertible BMW do you have, and what specific inexpensive convertible options are you looking for? Your statement that you dislike Toyota convertibles is perplexing, as we are a Big Body Mustang site. Can you give us some more information about your question and how it relates to this thread? That way we might be able to better answer your question. Thanks! :)
