The spring is correct the foam somebody put In

The spring goes on the window crank spline and it pushes the door panel out where the crank is.

Best is install the door panel.

Then spiral the spring onto the window crank spline. It will push the panel out in that area. Twist it in until the spring pops behind the panel.

Next is a chrome plastic protection ring then the crank. Screw the philiphs screw in to hold the crank. Then a plastic satin chrome disk with sticky backing goes over the crank screw and finishes it off. The spring pushes the panel which pushes the chrome ring out to meet the crank handle and gives it a nice finish without a gap.

You can get all the parts either NOS, repop, or aftermarket. The foam somebody put because They lost the spring.

the spring always gets lost if you don't know it is there.

you pull the panel and the spring goes flying.

that is the piece that goes on top of the panel to protect the handle from ripping into the door cover but its for the older cars

for 71-73 cars it is chrome.

then you have the finish cover on the crank handle.

these are the springs that sit on the crank handle splines behind the panel and push it out.

when you install the springs the wider side goes towards the door panel and the thin side on the spline.

71-3 used the flat plastic protector - no chrome

69 -70 used the chrome ones

No!

The ones I link to are behind the door panel. Towards the door.

Is about 1/2 "thick foam.

(have a few in my hand right now)

the foam you have might be the ones for the red clips that hold the panel on.

they are shaped pieces of grey foam that kept the panel from vibrating and went in the center of the red clips.

don thanks for the headsup, i was always told it was the chrome ones for 71-73. i used the chrome on my car.
