That has been a popular saying for many years now, but I don't really understand why you would want to support that kind of attitude about a car, even in jest.

Cars that are stolen are smashed up, abused, hammered mercilessly within a inch of thier mechanical lives, stripped and just generally driven to junk-yard death in the shortest amount of time physically possible.

Certainly not the way you treat a car you care about, right?

I think "drive it like you own it!" would result in a much nicer, longer-lasting vehicle.

I agree you put the time and hard work into something and then tear it up. WHY?

I suppose it depends upon what it is about the car that draws you to it in the first place. If it is the car's ability to perform, then driving it hard and repairing the damage makes sense. Race cars are much abused, but they also tend to get repaired pretty regularly.

That saying gets thrown around a lot but I allways take it as - enjoy your cars in whatever fashion you like, but do ENJOY THEM. I need to listen more to my own advice...

Isn't that somewhat akin to listening to the little voices in my head???

Yikes! :p

It's 5 o'clock somewhere. =Beer time! At least one!

Here is a famous stolen one:

If you look at it as a literal translation then I guess I should jump in my Mach abuse crap out of it do an armed robbery then set fire to it in a paddock. Don't really want a do that.

I used to drive mine like I stole it...

In the future I think I'll just drive it like I rented it...
I think that's more appropriate. Rentals are the fastest cars in the world and they cop a pizzling. But you still have to return them as you found it

My son's racing kart has a "race it, like you stole it" sticker on the bumper! We are 3 races into the season and I don't think there is 1 corner on that kart that I haven't repaired yet LOL!! LOTS of fiberglass!!

My dad was up at the garage after our last race as I was cleaning it up and assessing that weeks damage over a couple of beers. Found a broken part on frame from a good crash in the infield. I said well atleast I don't have to fix this side, pointing to the undamaged side of the kart. Without hesitation dad walks up and kicks it, laughing he says I don't want you spoiled Buck!!! LOL I guess me and him have watched Days of Thunder WAY TOO many times!!!

well as sayings go.... maybe we should list the ones to be eliminated

Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise

a Penny saved is a penny earned

a bird in the hand is worth two in tha bush

OR let's move on to a good one your beer, cold beer and free beer. Then take time to relax and not take life so serious.

I guess drive it like you stole it really doesnt mean TEAR UP A GOOD CAR... drive it feel it enjoy the character it was built with is how I interpret it.

A phrase invented for Geo Metro owners so that they can deny having title to the thing.

They were expensive to rent.

You can rent a new vette for $150 a day, but you leave a $500 deposit. That would be fun, but it'll cost you to tear it up.

If I had stolen the car, I think the last thing I would be doing is driving to attract attention...

That's why I can never fathom how the idiots on "cops" get caught mainly due to their own stupidity...

Stolen car speeding, boot open, driving erratically, etc

They are their own worst enemies....they are all fine nominees for the "Darwin" awards...
