emission cannister

I plan on putting my emission cannister back in but would like to clean it up. What is the best way to clean it? Does the honeycomb element ever go bad? Is there rebuild or replacements available?

The charcoal does degrade over time, allowing gas fumes to escape.

I believe the honey comb you see is part of the screen/filter and it retains charcoal pellets or granules. At one time charcoal granules were available at NAPA and other parts stores. Pet stores sell activated charcoal granules for fish tank filters that seem to be the most popular source for the charcoal.
