1973 Fastback Mustang Mach 1 351Q 4v
Hello everyone,

I am a little new to this field but I thought a forum would be a great place to gather information and help me along my restoration process. I currently own a 73 mustang mach 1 351 Cleveland Q code and had a question about the exhaust system. Currently, I have been reading up on different posts talking about staggered shocks and exhaust clearance issues. I am a little confused because I have had people tell me that the exhaust system from CJ Pony Parts would clear it while others are saying it won't. I wanted to ask around and see if anyone has any exhaust systems that they know about that work with the staggered shocks because I would like to get it right on the first try but as I keep reading more and more information I don't think that will be the case lol. Anyways I was wondering if that system would work or if I should go with another exhaust system on the NPD website that has turbo mufflers but comes without an H pipe and just buy that separately. Any guidance/feedback is appreciated, thanks for your time.

No, it won't fit staggered shocks. It will fit standard shock mount. But it's also normal you have to tweak the exhaust system here and there for fitment. Original hanger mounts perhaps do not fit either anymore, mufflers are different in length.
There are some other manufacturers which make better fitment systems but I have heard that the also needed tweaking concerning staggered shocks. I think they soon will chime in. I fabricated my own pipes for staggered shocks because in 2.5" there is no fit-and-fun system and here are no custom exhaust shops.

Your best bet is to have a muffler shop customer bend a 2.5" system.

I have staggered shocks and ordered a prebent kit. The muffler shop had to "rebend" a good chuck of it to get it to fit my headers and clear the shocks.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like I will just have to go to the shop when I receive my exhaust system. Oh well lol, it is what it is! Thanks for the help!

I had my exhaust installed at a muffler shop and the clearance is fine. This was done custom. This year I added Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. Awesome!
