Yet another front bumper thread. I'm working on my front bumper and an trying to think of a way to figure out a way to fix the side warping out issues. I thought about gluing a screen mesh to the back that will help me mold it close to the finder after paint. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Can you please post up pics of this bumper issue? It might help.

Thanks, Ray
Ray,

Sure here you go. I used a razor and took off two coats of paint and that helped bring it back some. I still have one layer of primer and the orignal paint/primer to take off before I get to urethane. I thought if I could glue something bendable but supportive behind it like screening I could form the end to the fender a little bit better after paint.

Thanks,

Jim

They make plastic bumper repair epoxy, maybe a heat gun to bend the ears back then sand the back side use the plastic bumper cleaner then hit it with a layer of the epoxy, maybe drill tiny holes in the back side to give the epoxy more bite as well.

I have the passenger side that is just like that. Stripped it down to bare Urothane bumper. Tried several settings of heat with no luck. Tried to use heat with pressure molding clamps. Worked for 2-3 days, then found it wrapped back out. Though about mesh or back bracing but was fearful of damage. ( I had no clue about this site back then ). Will be watching thread closely for future attempt.

You need to make a thick guage sheet metal strip reinforcement PRE SHAPED TO THE COUNTOUR you want need /that strip then gets glued to the inside edge of the bumper using sem or 3m bumper repair epoxy..use a heat gun to shape the bumper to the premade strip...glue using c-clamps vise grips whatever to hold in place till the epoxy dries..don't forget to rough up both sides where the epoxy goes & drill 1/8 " holes all around in the sheet metal piece your make..the holes allow the epoxy to flow through kinda like a rivet but made from epoxy

I have not completed this repair myself, but have heard several examples like Scott mentions of using a metal brace and attaching with epoxy. I know of one instance were they slightly recessed the metal strip into the urethane of the bumper to help conceal it for judging purposes. It would be great for someone tackling this repair to include their photos. It is a pretty common issue with all of these urethane bumpers 71-73.
