Leaf Spring Insulator Pad

Can someone enlighten me on this?

Hope this is not a stupid question

Do our cars need the Leaf Spring Insulator pads?

I see conflicting information with some saying only Cougars got them but CJ lists them for 65-73 mustangs

I looked in my 1973 Shop manual diagram and that does not show them from what I can see

Thought I had more pictures..., but they are still on my SD card.

Yes they came with the pads, these are my original springs before restoring them and returning them to the car with all of the pads intact. You can see the pad on the mid-leaf near the exhaust tip. Sorry, I don't have a better picture at this time.

No not those, this is what I was referring to, shown in this diagram there are X4 per axle, upper and lower each side although only one (the upper) shown here labelled Original Rubber insulator

Gardoco, did you say that you restored your leaf springs? mine look about like the one in the picture and I need to replace or restore them. I also plan to do some media blasting on my rear housing. It also have rust spots. Anybody ever blasted their rearend housing? Thanks

Don is correct. There is no listing for the 65-73 Mustangs for the C6OZ-5741-A insulators. They do show a listing in the Mercury catalog for 67-73 Cougar. I had some on my 70 Torino GT, but are not on my 71 Mustangs. Probably saw use on the Cougar since it was marketed as a more upscale "Luxury Pony car" compared to the performance oriented Mustang.

No my springs are as they were when I aquired the car. I just got the 1" Lowering block kit and the diagram got me wondering!

I never seen anything like the one pictured even on cougar. That look like some aftermarket thing. Cougar was encase around the leaf pack in two halves

Don't get them, it's a waste of money and they won't fit. Believe me...I tried to make them fit. Called C J Pony parts multiple times and they didn't have a clue. Even talked to their "Parts Specialist/Manager" and he's gotten no clue whatsoever! The U-Bolts aren't long enough if you try to install them.  $$$ down the drain! But they don't advise you of that!
