Mavericks Invitational

If it were not for football I might drive to the coast and watch a couple

of the surfers get dashed on the rocks :s

They are predicting clear blue sunny skies with little wind and 30+

foot waves. The minimum for Mavericks is 20 foot waves.

Sounds cool, but nope. Too far to drive and I'd rather install my headlights, adjust my shifter and insulate the garage door rather than watch it on the internet.

I went down there yesterday (saturday). It's not a great venue for spectators. Its hard to see the action

and today they won't even let you go on the beach because of a mishap 3 years ago when some

spectators got washed by a rogue wave. They didn't close the beach yesterday and all the surfers

were out practicing. It was kinda cool when there were 25 foot waves, but the lulls between the big sets

were 1/2 hour or more. So the surfers were just sitting there for that time. They set up a megatron for

people to watch today, but with those long lulls between sets, it would be borring, unless of course you're drinking and partying!
