Bless you all who are related to those who committed the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe. The flags fly high and and proud at this house. Your familes and departed loved ones are in our prayers.

God Bless America!

Each year the soldiers of the Third United States Infantry Regiment ("The Old Guard") take part in the ceremony called "Flags In." Just before Memorial Day, each grave in Arlington National Cemetery is decorated with a small American flag.

The flags remain in place until the conclusion of the Memorial Day Weekend when they are all removed. It is the only time during the year when American flags are permitted at all gravesites in the Cemetery.

This is a beautiful site that pictures alone cannot convey. I recommend if anyone is in the Washington DC area Memorial Day weekend they take the time to visit Arlington National Cemetery.

This does bring back memories to me. As a temporary job just out of high school back in 1972 I worked at Arlington National Cemetery for about 9 months as a cemetery caretaker. One of my jobs on rainy days was to sit in the attic of the warehouse and roll the flags back up and store them for use the next memorial day! I still have a few of the flags that I kept that were not quite fit enough for use again.

Pic i seen online {salute} Both sides of my family fought in every war we ever had..one side navy..other side army marines...I never went...But i been around both...and got to mess with alot of there equipment "one thing about being a navy and army brat".and get too hear there stories...Ill never forget my grampa telling me the story about him working on radar...My grampa was a engineer master...So much so..When he come home he would have men in black..that followed him around...all the way into the 1970's...Cause my grampa new alot of secrects about radar at the time...He told me during the island hopping campain against japan...He was on a ship working on radar that got hit and was going down...He jumped in the water and swam to another ship..That picked him up...soon as they got him on board.. it got nailed and started to sink too....He jumped over board...And swam across the bay...In the middle of a battle...All the way to land..lol..Could you imagine? {shakes head}

I always look forward (if that's a way to put it) to this holiday. I'm so proud of the country I come from and the 5 generations in my family who have served protecting it.
