1972 GT-351 Mexican Boss
Hi Folks, it's been a while since I posted but on the advice of Ray Cantwell I figured I would expand the info on the Mexican Mustang.
Years ago there used to be a web site dedicated to these cars but it has since been shut down. Very unfortunate since he has a detailed registry.
The cliff note version is that come from his old web site is that like in the states, mustangs were produced at the "La Villa" plant outside Mexico City. The government put an 47% domestic Production minimum on these cars.
Some of the main differences is all cars were in kilometers, Windsor only 351's thru 1973, Dana rear ends, lap belt only thru 1973, no sportsroofs were allowed to be built till 1973 which is the only year for the Mach-1 there.
There were true Shelby's down there too. Shelby has a buddy named Eduardo Velazquez Chavez who teamed up with Shelby for GT-350 production 65-70. From 71-72 they had little to no connection with Shelby and the model changed to GT-351. The coupes has a distinct roofline to mimic a fastback.
There was a full article in the Feb. 1991 Mustang Illustrated. We will post that soon. Lots of good info.
My 1972 GT-351 is there version of a Boss 351 or Mach -1.
Ray will be helping me upload some interesting info.
