I have a picture lying around somewhere of my '72 T5 Sportsroof (sold thru PX to soldier in Germany, couldn't use the Mustang name) with my Texas personalized plates saying "STONER". This was back around 1976-77 (?). My last name is Stone and my first initial is R, so I'm guessing that's how it squeaked thru. I drove that car from all over, from El Paso TX to San Diego, and then up the coast to Tacoma and never got stopped once. l had long hair and am half-Japanese, so I kinda expected to run into some kind of trouble somewhere, but only got Thumbs Up everywhere I went. I even drove into Juarez Mexico, accidentally drove the wrong way on the One-Way main drag where all the bars and wh0rehouses were. A car going the other (correct) way flashed its lights and pulled up even with us. It was a Mexican cop! My Spanish-speaking buddy Gary (who had convinced myself and a female cashier to go to Juarez ["I know the way"]) with our cashed paychecks on us) asked "Is this a one-way?". The cop just looked at us, nodded his head, and drove-off. Needless to say, we drove directly to the nearest bridge and went home. I had those plates for 4 years, and every year they issued a new one in a different color. I had blue, red, green and black; I must have lost them in one of my many moves within El Paso. I later saw the same plates in a Cheech and Chong movie, but I had mine first! I would have kept them, but Texas thought it would be a good idea to charge more (I think they went from a $15 upcharge to $75/yr), so I let them go. I looked recently, and they won't allow STONER plates anymore. I'll post the picture when I find it.
