I've been digging around VMF for a while and will still value their vast amounts of information and support...but this gen-specific forum is definitely the jackpot! I reposted some of my VMF inaugural post over here in a blog. The journey begins! Hope to keep you all entertained.

Yes, you have found the motherload of 71-73 owners and don't have to filter out all the others. Sweeeeeet!

She looks well optioned...be worth getting a marti report for it..59 bucks i think for deluxe.....You got tack and deluxe interior... 4v cleveland...and factory AC...wood sterring wheel..and she is a convert... she mite of even had a full console...Hard to tell...people like too rip them out sometimes..full cluster gadge set up...Alot of it can be put in.... a marti report can confirm all your parts...But im sure most are factory...These cars are not being faked too much yet..lol...But some people over time do like to add things they didnt have.

Welcome aboard, car looks real nice, I like the blue and white.

If you just got it, you may want to do some digging as it sure looks like a 73 - Might loosen up the fender and check the VIN.

Has 73

front bumper

grille

fenders

rear bumper

Welcome to the best place for 71-73 owners.

and as Don, menioned, check the VIN, if it starts with a 3 then its a 1973, you all of the traits of a 1973.

Only thing I see wrong is the stripesand I'm thinking of putting the hockey sticks on my 73 as well. Sweet looking car you've got there.

Welcome to the site from Virginia! Glad to see another convertible on the site. I agree with some of the others, your car does look like a 73!

What a warm welcome! Thanks guys. I'm preeeetty sure it's a '71. Just checked the dash plate but I'll check the fender later. My Uncle Vic was a handy man and "fixed" a lot of little things his own way. It makes sorting out the wiring quite interesting. The front of the car looks a tiny bit racked as if it were hit on the front left...maybe someone replaced the grille with a '73. Here's a little piece I had in my original post on VMF which I think scared everyone away with its length.

My mother's uncle (my great uncle) was an incredible man who lived a live cooler life than Forrest Gump. He lived in Topanga, Ca where he kept his '65 Mustang Conv (left to my aunt), '56 T-Bird Continental (still there with his wife), and left this '71 to my brother and I.

From what I know, he bought it on a whim off the original owner (it wasn't even for sale) in Palm Springs in '76. Uncle Vic used to tell me it was a custom order, and from what I can find on the internets, it is one of a kind. Any convertible I find that is metallic blue (which may or may not have this many bells and whistles) still doesn't have white decals. Always silver. I honestly could not have ordered a more perfect muscle car with a million dollars in the 70's (when I WISH I were in high school). My favorite colors, my favorite model, my favorite make, with THE big a** motor. I'm still in awe at how it came to be mine and I thank my Uncle Vic every day-God Bless him.

[The Project]

I've got a little nest egg from my last job on ocean tugs in HI. Too little to buy my truck right now so that'll have to wait a few months for the next job.

SO-I need a DD, the stang needs to gallop, I need sh*t to do, and I've got a little dough to throw at it...PERFECT! (If anyone's envious of my 'predicament', rest-assured I fully appreciate where I am in life.

I never plan on selling this car and would like to keep it in the family till the earth explodes, so I'm not going to be inconveniently religious about keeping every bolt stock. However, I would like to keep it as stock as possible because it makes it so much more valuable...just in case. Any 'mods' I make will ideally be removable/unnoticeable/"worth it, so eff it".

The car was used very regularly by my Uncle Vic and I have service records ALL the way back (awesome). Many components (steering pumps, etc.) have been replaced several times, so, the car runs like a freakin sewing machine.

::welcome:: From North county San Diego. Nice convertible. What part of SoCal are you from?

No fasten seat belt lite above glove box? 71? or 73?
Thanks mach! LA pretty much...Dad's in Topanga, Mom's in Westchester (near LAX), girlfriend's school in Riverside, her parents in Huntington Beach. I'm allll over the place these days. I've got family in Kensington down there if you know where that is. Bunch of friends down there too. Maybe one day we can meet up! I've been hoping to make a road trip down there soon.

Love the 71-73 verts and welcome from Arkansas
Thanks! My Dad's side is from Arkansas. Grandpa from Jonesborough (sp?), Grandma from Rector. Other family in Little Rock/Greers Ferry.

71-72 tail lights?
No fasten seat belt light over glove box. Just 'Belts" light to the left of the headlight switch. I found these tail lights in a box of old car parts at their house, along with TONS of other parts, enough points/condensers, dist caps, carb kits, etc for three tune-ups. Also found another set of the rear bumper vertical posts, 3 sets of "MUSTANG" letters, misc switches, lights, gaskets, grommets, etc. My Uncle Vic was always prepared and also a scavenger...now I know where I get it from...
