Does anybody know if there is a reproduction lens made that includes the trip odometer? I have seen plain lenses (one of which was installed by the PO) but then the trip odometer is not functional. Are the parts for the trip odometer push button available?

I have only seen the standard lens as a repo. I know that NPD says that you have to drill a hole for the trip odometer.
My 2012 NPD catalog says that I would need to drill hole w/tach! Pretty sure that would mean the odometer. What if the odometer push assembly was missing?

The parts are not being made

Hard to find a good clean tach lens

I'll see what I have

As far a " drilling a hole "

Factory tach lens has a hole and a raise section

Plus the trip button is glued in

I replaced my lens with a repro and kept the old one for that reason.

I was hoping someday to remove/install the button.

That's what I have. I've also seen lots of clusters for sale that have had the lens replaced but have no button for the odometer. Maybe an idea for another video when I get a chance.

I suspect that getting the old button out without destroying it or the location of the hole to drill the replacement lens is going to take some work. I have no idea what type of glue but any strong solvents might hurt the button assembly as well.

It will be a challenge...or at least something to think about. My cluster is open for access right now due to the replacement of the defroster switch. I was going to pull it out to replace bulbs, maybe I'll go the extra step and take a shot at the lens rebuild since that is mostly inside work and the weather is cold. (Plus I can always get another repro lens if I screw things up too badly!).

I checked it out much more closely today. Bad news. The trip odometer reset button is is not a glue in piece. The outside cover cap is lightly glued to the lens and came off easily with a razor blade. My hopes were high. However, the entire assembly is built into an integral extension of the lens. Essentially, the lens is about 2" longer (perpendicular to the face). The trip odometer is a metal shaft and a button within the integral extension of the lens. (I guess I did not understand Don's previous comment about the bump out). So even if I was able to separate the button from the shaft, there is no way to install it on a new lens because the replacement is flat. Now I know why I have seen so many clusters with a trip odometer but no reset button.

I'm not giving up but...at a minimum I'm going to have to cut the entire button assembly out of the old lens and find a way to attach it to a flat replacement lens so that the work doesn't show. If I cut carefully and drill a good hold, there should be about 1/8 inch of room to glue and hide the assembly.

Hi,

I now about this (Taiwan)problem, i have order also a new lens without odometer from Mustang Unlimited... after that i buy a very good original from a guy ($20, happy, happy).

It looks better than the copy stuff.

Be careful with the glue fumes when drying, leaves definitely white appearance after drying (is not going anymore from the lens).

Maybe a tip: experimenting with the old lens (gluing).

Succes...
