Steering Columns - What is the differences?

Hello,

I am trying to find out the differences between the 71-72 and 73 tilt columns. I do know that Ford moved the ignition switch further down the column to make harder for thieves to steal them. Also, when you look up the key cylinder at NPD, you have two different part numbers. One before 05/14/73 and after 05/14/73. If anybody has any info, it would greatly appreciated.

I have a 71 mach and just switched mine over to the 73 tilt from a 71 standard. The 73 was collapsible for all the new safety requirements. The shaft where it bolted to the gear box was different and used a different rag joint. So I put the one from the 71 column in it and it worked perfect. Hope this helped
