W/S Wiper Motor

Need to install a new wiper motor. Have the new motor and it is wired and ready to install. Question being how do I know whether or not the motor is "parked". The arm that attaches the drive pin to the wiper blades is keyed by 180 degrees. I don't want to connect the new motor to the wiper blades and find out the motor is attempting to park the blades which are already parked. That could be ugly. I thought about installing the new motor without attaching it to the blades, running it, and see where it parks. Any ideas?

I believe you need to park it by doing exactly what you said run it with no arms attached, run it through a cycle or two, shut if off and finish hooking things up.

I also think what you propose to do will work well. I need a new wiper motor. May I ask were you found yours ? This is the last thing I need to put My pony back on the road after 21/2 years of a complete redo. The motor quit during the Sate safety inspection. Sooooo... I can not drive on the Interstate without a sticker. New or used is fine with Me.

This is the last thing I need to put My pony back on the road after 21/2 years of a complete redo. The motor quit during the Sate safety inspection. Sooooo... I can not drive on the Interstate without a sticker. New or used is fine with Me.

O'Reilly Auto Parts (old Kragens). The local corner store had one for $50.

thought was "park" may not be what the new motor thinks.

Don of OMS had a good suggestion. Plug it in, hold it in your hand,

ground the motor to the frame and turn it on. Then turn it off and

the motor will park itself. Now why didn't I think of that :s

Problem being I have relied too much on my mechanic to do work on the car.

So something as mundane as replacing the w/s motor becomes intimidating.

Just needed a second opinion.

Done Deal. Since we mounted the new engine, we have paid a lot more attention to detail.

Hey Guys,

I carefully took mine apart and cleaned and oiled now it works fine. I must add that when it stops working it sometimes the copper strip under top left bolt that has corroded. Clean the copper and re-install. When the copper gets coroded you lose ground.

All the info about installing the motor kept talking about "ground".

I tossed the old motor but never removed it and checked the

ground. Well, I have a new motor ($50) but the new motor is not

stamped with the original Ford part number. So I lost there.
