Is the vertical support different for 72 and 73? The bracket I have that connects to the grille doesn't match up with the stew holes on the vertical support, so I'm wondering if I have mismatched pieces. Mine is a 72, but when I bought the car it had a 73 front clip on it (fenders and bumper), with the exception of the grille. I went back to all '72 parts but as I said I can't get the grille support to line up right.
You are a master craftsman too! As evident by the Sprint convertible.I made my own. A chunk of sheet metal, a paper template, anvil, vise, hammer, metal file, shears and a drill, and a partial can of bed liner.
I have the Mach 1 honeycomb grill. I need to get the car down off the lift and take a look. I assume that the different brackets are because of a different offset to the grills between 72-73 with the deeper bumper. I’m thinking I have the 73 bracket, as the bolt holes are off by about 3/4 of an inch where they should line up with the holes on the vertical support.Kevin, what type of grille do you have? Yes for the Mach 1 grille the 1971, 1972, and 1973 grille support brackets are all different.
Most 1971 Mach 1 grilles use a dual bracket system and the 72-73's are single support systems. Take a look at the photo posted above by MCM. The single bracket on the left is for a 1973 Mach 1 grille, the single bracket on the right is for a 1972 Mach 1 grille. If you're grille (to) radiator support/hood latch bracket is for a '72 your going to need a single bracket as shown. Also I posted a link to a member's (72mustangsprint) car with the single bracket system installed for your reference.

Had one and sold it to a member from here .You might PM 72mustangsprint, he may have a bracket for a '72 grille available. Also, I'll keep a lookout as I see these parts on Fbook MP from time to time.
