Great info/story Bill. And really nice convertible. I really like the stock wheels and tire configuration. My '73 'vert has them as well, so I'm guessing that they were standard on non A/C cars at least.
When I first got the car (back around 1984) I thought that those stupid little vents never seemd (to me) to work very well, at least compared to the ones in my old '72 Mach 1. Shortly after I bought the cars a friend and I took it on a highway trip and we decided to open it up a bit. Somewhere (well) north of the then 55 MPH limit all hell broke loose! The previous owner must have parked near a pine tree and the vents were full of pine needles! When the pressure built up enough to push them free they came flying out of the vents and landed all over the two of us!
The good news is that the vents have worked fairly well ever since

The same thing happened in my '69 Mach 1. My Mom was riding with me, going 70 mph down the interstate. She opened the vent, and was instantly covered with leaves. My '73 'vert has them as well, so I'm guessing that they were standard on non A/C cars at least.

Or a little taste of that stray leaf that got in there and is all dried up.They are in my 73 non-AC vert too. They are always good for a dust blast the first time you open them each season.
