1971 Mach 1 R-code project on CL

Didn't R-Code 351c's have aluminum valve covers from the factory?

I see Autolite 2100's on both engines.

That bare block and crank comprise the original R-code 351C value, or so he says.

No problem.

From what I know and have learned, Ford never produced a 1971 R code Mach 1.

No such thing.

R code was reserved for the Boss 351 only in 1971. So no other Mustang carried that code in the VIN (5th digit) for 1971.

In 1972 the R code was a motor option available in all body styles. So a R code in 72 could be in the VIN of any bodystyle.

The 72 engine is commonly called the 1972 351-HO. The motor was a lower-compression motor almost identical to that installed in the Boss 351.

So - a 1972 R code could definitely be a Mach 1.
