Hey Heavy! Nice ride. I'm sure you'll get those issues nailed down and put down! Anyway, the quality of America's automobile production during the 1970's had hit a low point. Those cars were just thrown together and anyone who stopped the production line for an obvious problem risked termination. Money talked and quality walked........ I previously had two 70s eras cars that both had one thing after another after another go wrong. I was known by my first name at the parts house. I also had to fend off the idiots behind the counter that claimed my problem was that I had a Ford. I countered that I couldn't keep up with how many GMs I saw stalled out on the side of the road every day. The parts back then were cheap. A starter cost $15, a water pump was $12, a Carter single barrel carb was $60 and on and on and they were quite easy to work on. Anyway your efforts will pay off nicely as I would rather have a classic Mustang than a newer one that would require a substantial chunk of money to fix because the newer cars are nightmarish to work on unless you have substantial training an/or experience. When you have your cool ride running nicely, you'll be immensely satisfied with your unique ride!
 
The closest town of any size is Decatur. The car is all there or in the shed. I’ve been checking marketplace for another 351C though, so I guess you could say I’m hunting one of those.
Do you live near Florence or Muscle Shoals? Are you looking for any parts for the 71-73 Mustang?

I've already had more success in the last month than I have in years, I'm really optimistic this go around. She's been a headache, but she's been my headache and I love her regardless. It's funny you say that about GM. My grandfather traded in a '71 Vega on this Mustang when he bought it. I have a late '70s K10 my dad bought new and he said it always felt underpowered for a 350, but that's another story. All those parts were cheap and they were all American made. I had to change the fuel sender out this time around and seeing the Ford stamp on it made me think. I doubt the one I put in it will last another 49 years, but that too is another conversation. We have a 2019 GT Premium, although it's a really nice car with stupid power and fuel economy, I dread the day it starts giving us problem$.

I can be in Muscle Shoals in 25 minutes. If I could find another Cleveland that wasn't locked up I would be interested. I didn't know they existed until recently but if I could find a center gauge set (Oil, Alt, Temp) that didn't cost a fortune I'd like to get one of those as well. The wife has a '72 Coupe in the junkyard that will need several parts. Is there someone out that way I should know about? I'm all ears.

Same here man. Some of the guys at work come through that way and they've brought in the Beaver Nuggets and I'm a big fan. I need to try one if those brisket sandwiches too. I figured I'd give it a couple of weeks to settle down.

Hello there. I have a 72 Mach 1 and my journey is similar to yours. One thing I would suggest is to make sure the gas tank doesn't need to be replaced. I had constant carb issues and tried several different brands Long story short, in the end if I would have just replaced the tank sooner I believe it would have minimized a lot of my problems. After the 50 years and long periods of sitting, could be time. Also a good time to replace the fuel hoses too.

I had the misfortune of having to go to Madison today and having two hours to kill, so I made my trip. I was not disappointed.

Hey dude, welcome from one new guy to another. The gas tank was rusted through with the trunk floor when I first got the car so we replaced it around 2007. The fuel lines will be swapped to some of that nylon AN line stuff pretty soon. Thanks for the the advice.
