I found the MSD 6AL ignition box was causing a parasitic drain of 40-50mA. I sent it to MSD to be repaired. They fixed it for $80.55. A bargain compared to the cost of a new box. Turn-around time was about two weeks not counting shipping days. They replaced 3 transistors, two resistors, and a capacitor. I'm posting just to make people aware of the service in case it is ever needed. Chuck
 
That's good to know. I sent my 6AL in about fifteen years ago to repair damage caused by a faulty new out of the box voltage regulator. I was concerned with them being owned by Holley their "repair" department was simply a scrap dumpster.

They told me the max repair cost was $144.00, for my pre- Digital 6AL. It may be different for newer models or "potted" off-road or marine models. I'm glad to get the car running again for that sum. The person I dealt with is Jonathan Lowman. He called himself " low man on the totem pole". He ia a great guy to interact with. Chuck

I've had 3 of them repaired now for @ 100.00. I bought the last one for my Q code used on Ebay for @ 75.00 knowing they would run through it with a sawbuck / reasonable rate. MSD unlike others such as Holley - Mallory. (As mentioned) Mallory shot itself in the foot when Holley took over, the customer representation went to hell rendering the products fire sales. You're on your own ... or wait 45 min maybe we'll pick up. In this case you want a work or service order # then you send it in and wait up to 2 weeks.

A friend of mine whose business is performance, tuning and racing told me many of the drag racers who still use MSD carry several spares.
In his world they're known as 'May Suddenly Die' units.
 
When we purchased our 73 Mach 1 i had been beefed up significantly by the prior owner. Amongst the upgrades was a full MSD system with MSD distributor. The elecronic ignition control module was a 6A unit. I wanted the Rev Limiter version of electronic ignition module. So, I ordered a 6AL unit, It was literally a plug in swap, no drama. And the 6AL worked perfectly. I kept the 6A unit in case the 6AL gives any grief. Cheap insurance in case the module fails. Thus far the MSD system has performed flawlessly. The secondary ignition firing spikes looks a little unusual on an oscilloscope, but knowing what system is doing helps make sense of the voltage pattern displayed..
