What was the actual hp when new... many engines was down rated in that era!

I'm not aware of anyone having done a dyno test on a completely bone stock M-code build. I'd like to see how it compares to Ford's numbers.

 Chuck, not to be too critical, but that is referring to the "M"  351/400 engine not the 351 M code of 71. How confusing!!!

It would be interesting to know exactly what the M code engine actually produced for HP. The factory rated  M codes at 285 (I think without double checking)

I few years ago. One of the car mags. Tested a bunch of stock rebuilt muscle car engines. The 70 351c made 383HP if I remember correctly. I do remember rubbing that in my Chevy buddies face.
