Gals and Guys,

On one of my parts buying trips I came on a pair of NOS Front Valance Guards in Chesapeake Bay I believe.

I bought them and one of the rubber strips is missing. If anyone has the rubber strip or if you have them on your car I need to know how they mount? Did they just bolt to bumper then bottom of valance or to cross member?? I have searched for a picture of a car with them but have never found one. The attached are a couple pics. I can get the part numbers if that helps anyone. I also put some pictures of a front bumper guard so you can see the difference. No cut out for bumper in the valance guards.

The 65, 66 all had these but went away in later years. I think 71 was only year in our cars that offered them. They do not show up in Marti's Mustang by the Numbers book like several other options he missed.

Thanks,

David

David, those front bumper guards are very close to the type I had on my 67 Mustang. The low mount front guards were a 71 only option on the 71-73's. They were part of the Protection Group option which included the front low mount guards and body side molding with a vinyl insert. It was a $31.00 option if your car was equipped with the standard bumper guard option and $45.00 for all other's. None of these options were available on the Boss 351 or  Mach 1.

The pad insert you need is D1ZZ-17A812-A  (ID# D1ZB-17A812-AA). The top of the guard fastened to the front bumper reinforcement and the lower to the radiator support with a D1ZZ-17B795-A  bracket.

I see where some vendors are using the D1ZZ-17A812 as the part number for the pad on the standard guard which is wrong. The standard guard pad was sourced from the full size mercury and had a D1MY-17A812-B part number. If  Don @ OMS or Mike @ Motor City Mustang don't have any thing on them you might luck out and find them online. I just don't believe most vendors will bother with the expense of repo part with a one year only application. I have also included a couple of illustrations I hope will help you!   :)

I have a set of these as well and haven't been able to figure out how they are installed.  Any insight?
None, that is why I am here, lol. Cannot find a picture that shows them. Maybe parts book would but I do not have one.

Hi guys,

I have a picture for you. I took this photo of a 1972 Mustang ( produced September 1971 ). The bumper guards are part of the protection group in 1972 ( 1973 only had the rear guards as an option )

Got you confused. There is another set of guards besides the bumper. They go from the bumper down over the valance panel and give it some protection.

Looks like Secluff came through with the parts book picture. Now I know that I need two brackets 178795 to be able to mount them.

I only bought the guards because he only wanted $20.00 for the pair but now have to find or make the brackets and need one rubber strip which I can also make if I have to.

Bumper guards were in style back then lots had them. That is another option Marti chose not to list in his book Mustang by the numbers. I guess the protection group was how most were added.

Now the search begins.

If you wind up making brackets I would like a pair.  If you find more brackets than you need I would like a pair!

I really need to get a pair...

Hope these measurements help to bend up some brackets

Don,

Thanks for the info. How much for the brackets? It looks like the rubber piece mounts different on yours than mine. I think mind just have the studs looks like that one had a screw through the front of the rubber pad.

Well darn came close to getting them, lol. I was outside trimming the grape vines.

Maybe Don will sell his or I can get some accurate dimensions with calipers and make some.

Thanks,

David
If you want a good look at them, I'd be happy to ship them to you so you can measure them up.  I won't be installing them for awhile.
