Hi guys,

I have a 73er Q-code with 1970 closed chamber 4V heads and will change the stock exhaust system in a 2,5" system - on occasion of this I will change the stock headers too.

Any recommendations, where I could buy a reasonable 2,5" system? It could be noname, because I have already 2 Flowmaster mufflers and I have no fear to adapt a 69s system to a 73s :D

Any recommendations to some headers which will fit in that narrow space between heads and engine bay ;) ?

Thanks,

Tim

Pypes has a nice 2.5 inch stainless steel dual exhaust, as long as you don't have staggered shocks.

For the headers, I would do a search for other threads, there has been some recent discussions on how well they fit, how low they hang, and so on.

I don't know if it cost more but I went custom 2.5" on my '68. That way the guy doing my exhaust could adjust what he needs to.

If you go hookers, go with the 'competition' and not the 'super competition'. The super comps hang down lower and tend to get beat up more. I have had both and have never smacked the 'competition' ones.

FYI, it appears I would not be able to remove the transmissions with the competition headers in place.

Also, if you go headers, consider 'stage 8' locking bolts. Here is a write up I did:

+1.

Im thinking the pypes and Hedmans for mine. I'm doing a 4R70W swap so I need to do some more research on clearence.

I will be under mine today and will snap a couple of pics to show how tight they are with the c6.

I suppose it's personal opinion, but I don't care for the drone of the Flowmasters. I prefer Magnaflows.

I had the super comps and also had the clearance issues. When I took them off you could see all the spots where the headers contacted the road. I went with the Hooker Competition headers and the Pypes exhaust but haven't installed the exhaust yet.

+3. Good clearance and great sound with my Hooker Comps.

Hooker competition seem to be the go not super comps. I run magnaflo x pipe system all the noise sits about a foot behind the car. Sounds nice and you can talk in the car easy. Headers choice would really depend on application/combination. eg do you drop the pipes and hit the track or is it a daily driver

Hi,

thank you for the numerous suggestions!

@will e: that is VERY tight on the right hand, wow. Would you dampen it in any way?

So I deduce from your statements that I will go with some Hookers - they are also very affordable... I have found this two

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hok-6915hkr/overview/year/1970/make/ford

and

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hok-6920hkr/overview/make/ford/model/mustang

One is for 71-73 and one for 1970. Which one would be the one to go - keep in mind, that I have this heads on my 73s q-code block:

So, do I still need the 71-73s headers because of the specific engine compartment and it's big playground for headers ;) ?

And for the exhaust system, would this do the thing with the Hooker headers:

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/sum-680111/overview/year/1973/make/ford/model/mustang

I do have already some new 2,5" Flowmaster mufflers ready to install and I am not afraid to accomodate something here and there on it so a budget system will be enough - especially it is not my daily driver...

By the way I have staggered shocks so the pype-system will not function...

This two should be the tiny parts I will also require I think:

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hok-10877hkr/overview/

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hok-11040hkr/overview/

Some more?

Thanks,

Tim

BTW, when I last spoke with the folks at Dr Gas they were going to make the 2.5 inch staggard exhaust tailpipe for our cars. If everyone e-mails them about it they may speed up their release of this item.
