Advanced timing may cause the motor to run a little hotter, causing the problem. Realistically their shouldn't be any spark when the ignition is turned off so timing shouldn't directly cause the issue.

 
Raising the idle exposed more of the transfer slot and is allowing fuel to be pulled in after shut down. Reset the idle to where it was before and add a couple of degrees of initial timing to get the idle speed you need.

 
Base timing should be 6. I have it set at 8 right now. I also lowered the idle speed a bit, we'll see how things go.

 
8 degrees of initial timing on a Cleveland isn't much at all.

When you check the timing do you disconnect the vacuum advance? Is your vacuum advance hooked up to port or manifold vacuum?

Are you running points or electronic distributor?
