My Car
1973 mach 1
Hi there,

I am looking for a 1971-73 mach 1 to bring back to Australia.

I am a huge fan and purchased one earlier this year.

Unfortunatley i was badly burned by the car dealer and it was nothing like described. Had to sell it.

I just want a good condition mach 1 with no rust and good paint.

I dont want to have to restore.

Just want to enjoy straight away and enjoy at some local shows.

I dont mind if it needs minor cosmetic work but body and paint must be very good.

As I have large shipping and import duty fees I will have a max budget of

15-17k.

Any help is appreciated as I am having trouble finding a trustworthy reliable person.

Regards

If you see anything in Arizona I'll go check it out for you.

Try searchtempest.com

If I see anything I'll let you know.

Dry desert climate and 500 miles from the port in Long Beach.

Most rust free Arizona Mustang is in my garage and its a convertible.

Hasn't seen rain since at least 1977.

Not for sale though.

Where in Oz are you? Used to spend holiday there every year till I got married. Hung out mostly in Manly and Surfers Paradise. Almost bought a house on Hope Island but reality set in that it would end up being a rental and that 16 hour flights were a little too far away.

I would have made serious bank if I had done it.

Hi STOCK TRADER,

Thanks for your generous offer.

I am actually in Melbourne but I have been to surfers paradise a few times so I know exactly where you are coming from.

What about Pheonix arizona, Is that in your region.

I may have one there to look at.

IT is very hard for us down here. I dont want to be burned again.

However once you have the bug its hard to get rid of it.

I want a mach 1 here for xmas holidays which is our summer.

I know where most of the rust spots normally are but you just cant trust some of the sellers when they say its rock solid.

Sometimes i wish i had the budget to just fly down there.

Anyway if you can help i would really appreciate it.

You can pm me if you want and we can go from there.

You guys on this forum are fantastic.

Always full of great information and ready to help.

I've brought 3 cars from Shermatt, They are a married couple who have made a business out of inspecting and sending cars world wide from the USA, Matt is an Ozzy married to Sherry who's a yank, They are based in Florida, but will travel anywhere in the states to look at and or buy a car for a customer. A really nice couple who love old cars,

Matts currently building a car for me, It's a 1966 two door falcon Futura, being built as an Aussie right hand drive 1967 XR GT,

My cousin lived in Melbourne till about 3 years ago. She really liked it.

Search Craigslist. If you need a zip code use 85296

From my house it takes

40 minutes to drive to north Phoenix

1.5 hours to drive to Tucson

5 hours to San Diego

6 hours to Long Beach

12 hours to San Francisco

There are a few Mach 1's I see around here.

A '72 is around here somewhere. Saw it a couple days ago.

What color do you want. The 72 was a non factory red color.

Auto or stick ?

If an auto I'd put a 4r70w in the shipping container for you to get overdrive.

Vicmach,

I am more than happy to throw my hat in as an optional help although my ability may be more limited.

Pegasus recomendation of Shermat is seconded by many on the Australian Mustang Forum.

All the best on the hunt.

Cheers

thanks guys,

To stocktrader,

At this stage i will look at anything but my preferences are below.

auto

prefer factory color however as long as the colour change has been done correctly should be ok.

prefer 351 but a good condition 302 is ok

prefer magnum 500 wheels but again this can be done at any time.

just want a good car that i can work with

Thanks guys,

I am still looking.

Have had 2 cars inspected last month and both failed.

Seller claimed excellent condition and when the inspector sent me the report they were nothing like described.

It seems there are many mach 1's with rear quarters replaced incorrectly.

Both were done poorly according to the inspector.
