Steve,Are you talking about screw holes in the tabs in the very bottom of the seat panels? If so, that's normal.
Now, if someone popped screws at the bottom corners, yeah that's not right.
Correct me if I am wrong but those are 73 seat back panels and not 71. The 71's do not have the bottom tab on them, they are just a flat panel. What I'm looking for is the 71 style.Mine look like that to
Appreciate it but am really looking to find a Ginger non-painted pair. From all I can gather, looking at aftermarket and restored Concours 1971 MACH's it does not seem like they utilized screws in the lower L & R side. However, I could be completely wrong too!...I have a '71, they were ginger, but I painted them black to re-use them. Mine do have the two screw holes on the lower edges. From what i have seen, from the parts I have been looking at, that is where the screw holes were meant to be. If you can get a hold of an aftermarket set you can always paint them. the color of the seat backs were not exactly the same as the seats anyhoo.
Thanks for the clarification Don. Mine is a very early 71, March 4th 1971. So I am looking for one's without the screw holes....VERY early 71 seat back panels had no screws and 7 clips
Later 71 panels had 5 clips and 2 visable screws
72- 73 - had 5 clips 2 hidden screws on tabs
Gotcha, well mine just snap in and are held in place this way...so I guess I am one of the first 2 styles.March is not a very early car
Early car would be aug, sept, oct, nov of 70
Other sign is the side rail pivot covers
First 2 styles look like they had a wal anchor glued to them
early 71 just snap in
next version 71 snap in but with a screw to spread plastic fingers
late 71 72 and 73 held on by fine thread machine screw
Thanks, those are helpful pics as well....FWIW, mine is dated 05/71 and looks like this:
