Well my previous truck is/was a 2006 F150 with a 5.4. great for towing and not so great when you drive 800 miles a month. i mainly used the bed of the truck for household stuff and mustang needs. the mustang only weighs 3800lbs and on a dollie which i mostly tow it with is only about 4300lbs. well under the 5.4's 8800lbs tow rating which was nice but not needed if i only did it 2-3 times a year and almost never tow a trailer. and i averaged about 14-15mpg mostly driving at 50-60mph open road to work. therefore, i needed a more economical truck so i went with the new 2011 F150 with a 3.7. i test drove the 5.0 but i didn't notice a huge difference but it is noticable. its a 2mpg difference but all the ones were standard XLT's on the 5.0. i got the fuller loaded XLT package. the 5.0 is meant for a workhorse truck and i do little towing. so economy was more important.

according to ford's books, the screw with a 3.7 motor 3.73 gears, can still tow 5700lbs. i'm sure ford always limits those loads and the mustang with a almost 2000lbs trailer is maxing out the 5700lbs. i'll do that very rarely but i always opt to tow the stang on a tow dolly. the race track here is only on flat grounds and only 55miles away. i'll try to keep away from the mountains but if i don't, i'm sure i'll have to keep it at 50mph. california tow speed limits is 55mph anyways.

the 23mpg isn't a fluke, i drove it 20 miles or so on the highway and it read max 22.8mpg and it prolly would of kept climbing if i went on further. i went to base again today driving about 50-60mph and i got it up to 24.5MPG. not so bad for a full size truck. my main idea of getting a new truck with economy in mind.

with all the money ford spend on these 4 new motors, its almost obvious why they are canning the rangers and the sport tracs. it makes sense to can them when a sport trac cost nearly the same and gets the same mileage with a 4.0 or 4.6. the f150 will be the new tiny truck.

i love the truck and it was a great weekend to buy. 6K in rebates, and got 1k for my trade in and 400 for the fusion.

The truck looks great! When you say you got $1K for your trade-in (06 F150?) I hope you mean $1K over what you owed on it!!
