Topic:  Windshield and Backlight trim retainer clips.

I decided to buy some new clips when re-installing the rear window trim and front trim since the old ones were rusted, bent and loaded with butyl from the factory install.

Much to my surprise, the new clips were more than a bear to even slide on the pins around the rear glass.  I found I had to bend them to get them on and had a terribly frustrating time.  I decided to clean up one of my originals and compare them.  I have many originals from various parts collections and my tear down.  It appears that all of my "original clips" are measuring about .005 thick  where the new ones are about .017 thick material stock.

What is the Part number for the lighter weight clip, and where do I buy them?  Windshield time, and need to do this right!!

kcmash, I had always used either Ford (D1AZ-6542413-B) or a retainer from Kent Automotive which supplied a lot of hardware that was no longer available from Ford. Since the Ford retainers are no longer available I would contact Don @ OMS and ask him if he has heard of anyone else having the type of problem your experiencing. He offers moulding retainer kits for the front and rear windows. I would trust the products he offers and to get an honest answer if there is a problem with a vendors part. After clicking on the link, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see items F-3503 and F-583. http://www.ohiomustang.com/store/item_listing.asp?pcid=3&L1=MOLDING&L2=Window&p=3&ps=10

The kits I have are from AMK

The clips are green, most of the clips I see others selling are the black early model clips

The D1AZ-B clips replaced approximately four different earlier clips which were black. The D1AZ-B clips were green and remained so until early 2003 when Ford went to a red oxide color until discontinued. If shopping for some for one of my vehicles I would get the green coded clips from Don! If you do have a problem at least you have someone you can talk to that cares about his customers.

After pulling some new packages of clips today March 1 -2017

They are now blackish grey- not the jet black like the generic 65 up clips

Did find a pack of green ones for a coupe on the back of the rack.

Not sure when the change was made but it had to be awhile ago.
