It's a wild looking set up. I have seen it on a Boss Mustang in Perth Western Australia. Remember thinking it looked pretty cool, there was a hertz replica next to it with 2 rows of similar looking autolites and a 66 Galaxie with a 3 barrel Holley.

Only ever seen those big old 3 barrel holleys on GM stuff before then.
Yup...I think the reason we dont see more of these.. Was cause they was built for the 302 boss engine for racing only..These carbs where not street legal..They intended them to be used on the 351 cleveland for all types of racing..But as we know it was a short lived block, so not many was made or ordered.

I have never been a fan of overly-complicated machinery when a simpler design will perform just as well.

Not so much referring to this cross-boss, but really never cared for any of the six-pack/ six-barrell/ three dueces set-up. Never encountered a six-pack that could outperform a well-tuned, sized and adjusted decent 4-barrell.

The complexity of getting the six-pack perfectly adjusted nearly always meant it was rarely in tune enough to shame a well-tuned Holley 4-barrell. Lots of guys on the street back in the seventies were not great mechanics, and consequently thier cars ran so-so. Having a six-pack to contend with made that even more so.

There were a few Hemis over the years that I encountered that were in such a poor state of tune than most stock 383s would outperform them.

Back then, it was much, much more of an issue to know the skills of who turned the wrenches on the car you were about to bet a Benjie on than it was the "specs" of the drivetrain.

Today it is more about the equipment under the hood. And of course, today the world is chock-full of know-it-all "experienced" bench-racers who can spout off every part name and spec on thier "10 second JDM" but who have rarely ever spun an angry wheel in a street race.

Kit I agree my friend J has a stroker 440 it lost horsepower when he went too a 6pack over a big 4barrel. He reckons the cool value is worth the hit and maintainace  each to there own I guess.

Interesting observations re mopar 383,its my firm belief that a lot of well tuned hot 383s are most responsible for Mopars legend status, more so than 440s and Hemis

I know a guy who has one with the carb. Pretty much shelf eye candy. Has a second lid as well but someone welded a bracket to it in the past.

This carb was never street legal...It was made for pure race and nothing but that...Any reason for it too be on the street would be purely for entertainment and show....btw ...Some are holley, some are autolite... Nothing really super complicated about it besides the way it is splitt up...Which i see plenty of splitt dominators on the drag strip now days..But hardly anything you see on the street much....The 69 Boss 302 Trans am racer used a cross boss splitt 1050 holley dominator...But with out the little barrels it would suck on the street for every day use..lol

Great eye candy...Most are soaked up into collections or on a shelf like that...Impossible to find one for sale.

Hyena is right great eye candy, bitch on the street was race only for boss cars, apparently they don't even have a idle circuit. Here is a bit more info

Pretty cool to see how racers stretch the rules it's all a matter of interpretation lol

Roush make an EFI version sexy streetable and no doubt hideously expensive see pic

He has been taking it to swap meets for years. Think he wants about $4000 for it.
