The good news is that the police report came back and showed him at fault and my insurance agreed to repairs. The bad news, according to Progressive (his claimed insurance) he nor his company have a policy with them.

My choice is to let it play out or file as uninsured motorist, pay my deductible, and hope to be reimbursed later.

Same sort of situation with my son in a parking garage - lady who hit him admitted it was her fault.

Police would not come to a private parking garage.

Her insurance company, Gieco said they think it was 50/50 fault and bring the car to their estimator at an appointed time and date.

Our Nationwide agent said to file it under our policy, get it fixed how and where we want, pay the deductible and they would go to arbitration.

Almost a year later he got a 1000.00 check for his deductible as nationwide won the case against Gieco

Hey, bud - you told me but I just saw this thread. OUCH. Glad you and your family are unharmed.

Good luck with the repairs.

And if you have some questions - as he said - don't ask Chuck how he knows but just KNOW HE DOES.!

I sure consider myself ultra fortunate to have a good friend in Chuck who is so knowledgeable and is a true FORD enthusiast just miles from my home.

At and the cost of one Miller High Life bottle for each question I now owe him another case for all the questions and each request for the honest advice!

Actually, I’m using a shop he recommended. I drop it off on the 31st.

Boy this has been a bigger deal for then I thought. Right after the new year the body shop sent a supplement that raised repairs to over 10k. Then I received a total loss notification around 1/15. After several days of fighting, they agreed to repair the car (they had priced it as a base model, rather than a premium with a Pony Package).

Now we have a new issue. All rear passenger side quarters are on back order (I checked with other shops). I’m told it is because of the steel embargo’s with China and that very few extra parts are being made since the car is still in production. This 1/4 has been harder to come by than parts for my ‘71.

Very frustrating.

I do not think there is an embargo just tariff added to the steel. I would be surprised if Ford was buying steel from China. When I worked in China Ford would not allow the shop to do tooling tryout or buy off with China steel. Steel was shipped from the U.S.A. to be used for tryout and PPAP, Production Part Approval Process, so that the tool was dialed in to production material.

I do not know about the quarters but the doors are made of a Bake Hard or High Strength Steel for crash reasons.

When we stamped parts for Ford we saved all the rejects from production and they were sent in for service orders, lol. Ford usually keeps the gravy parts to run in house. The exterior parts have way less trim steels to maintain so they usually keep them in house. We ran inner quarters for Ford for the T-Bird, Cougar, Mark VIII & Escort. They have lots of trim edges, holes and mating surface that requires more tooling repair and maintenance. So that is why Ford farmed them out. Die makers in their shops are way over paid.

On the insurance thing. Most trucking lines are self insured. Our company was self insured. When we rented cars when traveling we never took insurance were covered by our company. Same with company cars. In one year we totaled two rental cars and I had a fender bender when in South Africa they paid all.  They just have to post a bond of a certain amount and they do not have to buy insurance from a supplier like Allstate. Insurance is one of the biggest rip offs there are. Look at the palaces they have for headquarters and pay all those executives salaries.

You should contact Ford maybe there is a number in your owner's manual for customer service. He who complains the most will get service. When Ford put the TRX tires on in the 80's you could not find them anywhere but if you complained a set would show up the next day.

I would love to get a car like yours off the insurance yard, no chassis damage I would skin the door and cut a patch out for the quarter from salvage yard and drive the heck out of it.

I doubt that Ford sells door skins due to the metal used.

Insurance companies under most state laws cannot raise your rates for making a claim under your Uninsured Motorist coverage. Watch out for this or the excuse they come up with to try and hike your rates. Change companies if necessary, but don't get shafted

Either way, Ford is claiming that they’re back ordered on all rear 1/4s, door is not a problem. I believe that 1/4 is aluminum, but I could be wrong.

Jeremy,

Sorry to hear your ‘17 Mustang was damaged and the problems you’re having with the back ordered quarter panel. Is your body shop ordering through a Ford dealer? If ordered on a normal stock order there is normally a 3-4 Depot referral process before Ford stops and places a part on backorder. A lot depends on your location in Texas and what Ford considers Your “Facing” Depot (The first and main parts supplier for your dealer). Unless a brand new just released model, the majority of the depots stock most fast moving sheet metal (F 150, Mustang, etc). If back-ordered or not stocked at that location, then the stock ordered part is referred to the next 2-3 closest depots. If there is no stock at those locations then the process stops. My sources show stock on the right quarter panel (FR3Z-6327840–A) at the Sacramento HVC (High Velocity Center) and Detroit HVC. The dealer would have to upgrade the order to receive the referral process that searches all depots until the part is located. I know a lot of people hate anything that involves any interaction with a car dealer (A reputation many of them have worked hard to deserve)! But if your dealer is a reputable one, then they should do what it takes to satisfy you and not lose a sale.

I checked my brothers 2018 Mustang and it is all steel metal except the front fenders and hood. There is an outer door skin available but with all the old school body men retiring or already gone, most of the new age parts hangers prefer the door shell. I went through that when the passenger door on my ‘18 F 150 was damaged by someone backing a trailer up. Body shop said it would be easier for them to transfer all the glass, latches etc, to a new door shell than to find one of the “New Age” body men that could handle removing and installing a new skin!

If for some strange reason there is still a problem with tracking your quarter panel down let me know and maybe I can help you find something in your state. [emoji846]

Now there is a man that knows his Ford parts business. Our local dealer use to be the best. They were the local center for all the NASCAR stuff and would get you about anything you wanted. I got the last NOS 65 fastback trunk lid to fix a friends T-5 there.

Hello Jeremy,

Just checking in to see if there has been any progress on your quarter panel. Unless there was a QC hold which resulted in a stop-sale condition the panel should have shipped. My sources show Detroit HVC inventory is now at 80 and Sacramento at 26. Hopefully, the decreased inventory numbers mean there is one heading your way!

Fingers crossed!      :)

I didn’t hear from them yesterday. I need to follow up today because while certain parts are off the car, I’d like to perform a few upgrades (ex. Sequential blinkers in the front).

Thanks for the support.

They finally got the 1/4 on Thursday and it wasn’t damaged like the first one. Now they can finally get down to work. When all is said and done, the car will have been off the road for 3 months. Thank goodness I have a backup vehicle.

Finally!! It moved into paint.
