This link is pretty cool, enter a VIN# from a 1950-1980 vehicle and it dedodes it for you rather than digging through pages of reference material.

What causes a VIN to decode wrong (or not at all) ?

Primary cause is typos like putting in the letter O instead of the number 0, or putting in dashes or spaces.

I tried it twice it appears I have a 1963 Mustang with a 390 in it!

VIN Format: 1960-1980 Ford/Mercury/Edsel/Lincoln

Decoding: xxxxxxxxxxxx

Digit Usage VIN Decoded

1 Year 3 1963

2 Plant R San Jose CA

3-4 Series 05 Unknown!

5 Engine Q V8 390-6v 401hp HP (late 63 only)

6-11 Sequential Serial # 143458 143458

This one works better! http://www.decodethis.com/
