Do you need to ground gas tank

I put isolator on the top of the tank and straps. I thought I read somewhere where someone said you need to ground the tank somehow if you put the insulation that way. Didn't know if it gets grounded though the sending unit.

 
The sending unit seeks a grounding via the tank, usually through the bolts holding the tank tight against the sheet metal that, in turn, is part of the chassis ground. So yes, it would be best to install a separate grounding path directly from the tank to the chassis if you isolate the mounting.
