Hi everyone,

Mine Mustang is for the first starting up in the garage and we notice a new problem:

The exhaust pipes/mufflers and headers from Hedman are not the right ones.

Now i must order new ones, what do you recommend?

The dealer here in Belgium recommend this:

-headers from Doug Thorly(DTE-265-2V-C)

-pipes from Pypes performance exhaust(SFM04R)

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/dte-265-2v-c/applications/year/1973/make/ford/model/mustang?prefilter=1

Thanks for advice,

Eddy

I can't remember if your car has 2V heads on it or not, if it does that looks it would be a real nice setup. You could probably find cheaper headers but the set shown in the link look to be high quality. I'm running a set of painted hedman's that I bought for a 100 bucks that look and sound great although they aren't ceramic coated;)

That is what i have, hedman headers hit the engine mount and steering pump and comes to close to the under side of the car.

Other suggestions?

The one you show is 6915-HKR (for 4V engines I think), and the ones I purchased are 6913HKR (for 2V engines). I believe we have the same engine (2V). I would double check before ordering, though.

Doc,

I have a set of 6915 (4V) and the collectors angle in towards the driveshaft, not sure about the 2V model, does yours do that? I had a clearance issue with the collector flange hitting the transmission oil pan. These were the Hooker comp headers so not sure if this would be a concern for EddyW. Other than that the fitment was good around the steering box, power steering pump and linkage for me too.

Hi everyone,

Just got the headers from Doug Thorley (DTE-265-2V-C) and trying to assemble, but unfortunately the fitment is still worse than the Hedmen headers.

Looks very good material, but alas ...

The Doug Thorley headers hit also the steering gearbox and engine mount on the L-side.

Hooker comp headers(6913-1HKR or 6913-4HKR)???

Thanks,

Eddyw

Eddy - I have the perfect set-up for you: Hooker Competition headers and Pypes 2.5" Stainless exhaust w/X-pipe & Street Pro mufflers. It's on a 351C-2V and clears an AOD (bigger oil pan than the stock FMX). You'll need to put about 7-10 degrees of bend into straight pipes forward of the X-pipe, since the collectors on the Hookers are inboard at a slight angle - but otherwise, fits like a champ!

Pictures and everything:

Hooker Reducers 2.5": http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hok-11040hkr/overview/ (there are some stainless or ceramic-coated units availalble as well)

Pypes 2.5" stainless for 1971-73 Mustang V-8: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-sfm04s/overview/year/1971/make/ford/model/mustang (there is a 'no muffler' kit available as well)

Here's the first fire-up on mine after it was all installed:

Hope this helps!
