Factory A/C Help?

I need a Evaporator/Dryer for my 1971 Mach-1.  It seems that the part number 19860 (below-1) searches to below-2.  Then if I search on "1971 Mustang Evaporator", the result is below-3.  Which is correct?

PABlueMach-1, wise words from midlife. Picture #2 is an E6LY-19860-A (Motorcraft YK-111). That is an evaporator for 87/ Fox Mustang, 87 T-Bird, and sister Mercury and Lincoln cars. The #3 illustration I don't recognize. I have an old evaporator out of a parts car but unfortunately, it's in a storage room elsewhere so I don't have any way to provide you an illustration. Most of the ones you see advertised as OE style use generic illustrations. The original Ford unit is D1ZZ-19860-A (Motorcraft YK34) which is no longer available from Ford. Our Mustangs and the 70-71 Torino shared a lot of different components but unfortunately, the evaporator you need was a 71-73 Mustang and Cougar part only.

You also mentioned a drier. That would be the round cylindrical unit on the left side of the condenser the has the liquid line running to the top of it. Ford called it a Dehydrator and Receiver Tank and while there were originally two different ones they were replaced by the earlier DOOZ-19959-A (Motorcraft YL-11).

Not sure, but I believe a lot of what the vendors offer is a Classic Auto Air part. Hate to sound like a broken record, but I would check with Don (Ohio Mustang Parts) and see what he offers and what he knows about the suppliers for these parts. He works with a lot of these vendors and manufactures and knows what is junk and what is something that will function as good as an OE part. Good luck with your search.

NPD shows an evaporator for a '71:

These will give you an idea of what the correct parts look like.

I agree with Steve, start with Don so you know you're getting a quality product, even good vendors like NPD have a hard time getting good products.

LOL...that's pretty rare! The links Don C posted look pretty good from NPD. There is a slight price difference on the evaporator between NPD and Classic Auto Air but the dryer is about the same. Have never ordered anything from Classic but they seem to be the supplier for a lot of vendors that sell AC parts. Since they are so close in price it might come down to shipping costs. I'll post the Classic link so you can do a little "Tire Kicking".

Is the original Motorcraft part number YK34 or YK35?

The part number for 71-73 factory air (Integral) is D1ZZ-19860-A (Motorcraft YK-34). YK-35 is the evaporator for hang on air (Dealer Installed) for 72-78 Mustangs. 69-71 hang on air used a different part number.
